I've eaten here before over the last few years and would have given it a 3 or 4 star rating based on past experiences. However, todays experience pretty much killed my appreciation of the place. My wife and I both got the buffet. My wife started with a Pork and Mushrooms dish that smelled and tasted "fishy". I don't mean odd, either. I mean it smelled and tasted like fish. She ditched that and went for the Chicken and Broccoli (a safe bet, or so she thought) and experienced the same fish-like taste and aroma. I commented about it to the server/hostess and at first seemed genuinely concerned. She took a piece of the chicken off the buffet and back into the kitchen. A moment later she came back stating they serve no fish and that the food was fine. Meanwhile a young girl who I assumed was a daughter started going on a rant in Chinese with the older lady while giving me nasty looks. I'm in no way fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese dialects and only have a passing familiarity with Korean but I got the jist of the conversation. I tried to cool things off by telling them it was no big deal and I was just commenting, not complaining. I even told them the chicken and pork were both very tender (which is good). Anyway, that's my take on the place. For the same amount of money ($22) we could've gotten a good pizza at Dark Horse. And next time we're in Marshall, we will. Too bad, Jade Garden used to be one of...
Read moreThe food is not bad. Their chicken has seemed to change. I prefer their food over Yin Hai down the street. It’s generally piping hot and appetizing. The cream cheese wontons are also good. The kids who help run the establishment are cordial and well regarded. However beware of the mother. She has a temper - Especially with those not paying cash - near closing. Since COVID they have retreated into the rear of the building - unnecessarily clinging to fear. As of 9/2024 they are still retreated - buffet is still closed. With no hopes in reopening their buffet. If you want a buffet - it’s cold water or Battle Creek. Many other establishments have been reopened for a long time despite the epidemic. Also, they use the front house as a storage facility - seemingly oblivious that diners may want to dine in and not take out only. Once folks could enjoy a clean, respectable, musical sit down atmosphere and nicely offered buffet for lunch and dinner - but it has turned into a revolving fast food joint. One can say we long for more social interaction. Also - beware her temper is...
Read moreWe have been going to Jade Garden for years but today will be the last time that happens. Ordered our meals, however one of the meals Singapore Noodles, included pork which is not listed on the menu. We do not eat pork. I called as asked if it was okay if we brought the dish back to get a replacement and I was told that was fine. I would certainly have paid again if asked. However they took my dish then brought a "new" dish out to me after 5 minutes. Apparently they do not take food allergy or requests seriously. When we got home to have our meal we discovered that there were still pork pieces in the meal. They had essentially just taken out the large pork strips from what they originally gave me and then presented it back to me as a freshly made/"new" serving. This is sad, duplicitous, and potentially illegal. If we had sever allergies our family would be in the ER right now because we did eat a few bites before we discovered the other pork pieces. Dishonesty from the kitchen is not a good business practice and we will not...
