Gather Around BBQ — Restaurant in Martinsville

I’m sorry to leave a bad review but it’s honest. The food - easy 10/10. The atmosphere is also very solid. The service, no exaggeration, the worst I’ve ever had at any restaurant before.

On 9/14/2024, my family and I came in for a late lunch. It was def busy, but not filled to capacity. We sat at our table for exactly 35min before anyone even came to get our drink order. I asked for a Quaff On beer and the waitress responded, “I can’t get that for you, someone else will have to” (ok… the let’s just make that happen instead of giving me that kind of response, as I’m already quite irritated at this point for being neglected so long). -My wife asked if they had carbonated water, she responded, “I’m not sure.” (Ok… go ask then…???) I asked if I placed a food order now, approx how long is the kitchen running to get orders out, she responded, “I don’t know.” (I wanted to know…. We had just waited 35min just to get recognized that we were sitting there, it was a legit question).

We got up and left. Went to wings etc. I’ve had the food here at the food truck during a drag racing event, and it was def 10/10, but the service of the restaurant was truly awful, borderline offensive.

I would love to see a local Martinsville company make it here, but with service like this, it is just going to be another statistic in this town. This place needs to get it together because I absolutely cannot recommend this place to anyone in the community.

Food is awesome, but the service leaves needs some work. I've eaten here several times and the food is always great. Service not so much.

However, I'm leaving a review after experiencing poor service for the 3rd time. Yes, the food is good enough to keep bringing me back.

I've tried calling to place carry out orders twice and they never answer the phone. After no answer either time, I have gone in to either dine in or place a to go order.

The first time, about a year ago, I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes without being acknowledged as staff walked right past me several times. Granted, they were busy.

I saw an empty table on the patio and sat down thinking I would get service. After about 20 minutes of waiting I still was not even greeted. I only waited this long because my neighbors were at the table next to me so we were talking. After being ignored I left.

Another time I tried to call and again no answer. I went elsewhere.

Today, I tried calling and again no answer. I was only a few minutes away so I went in to place a to go order. Waitress was at the counter. Looked right me and continued to a guy that was talking awhile paying. When he finally stepped away, she walked away and said she'd be right with me.

Yet she waited on several other people and another guy walked in and he walked right up to the counter and she helped him.

I turned around and walked out. If I go back,it will be awhile. I do crave their...

My wife and I drove an hour to come try this place for the first time and was completely unhappy with our service. The place wasn't real busy we got a table as soon as walking in and there were plenty other empty tables. It took 15 minutes for our order to be taken and didn't receive our last drink until we had been there for 30 minutes. Around 1 hour of waiting for our food (including our appetizer) we started to notice that every table that came in after us and approximately 6 carry out customers had all gotten their food. Our drinks were empty by this point and had not been checked on any more then to drop our drinks off. We weren't out of sight we were directly in front of the kitchen access. We had to catch the other waitress that wasn't even working our table to try and figure out what was going on. We ended up taking our food to go because of time restraints well after waiting over an hour. When our waitress did come to our table she was not very polite and wanted to give every excuse instead of an apology. We were told we would be taken care of on the bill so I figured maybe our drinks and appetizer would be waved but a $5 discount on a $60 bill was what we got. Ended up eating soggy nachos and brisket sandwich on soggy bread when we were to where we could eat it. We were completely disappointed in the entire experience and never will go back to this...
