My nanny friends and I met up at the playground and for lunch after. For reference because this is important, E is white, L is black, I am asian. L’s birthday was over the weekend so we were treating her for lunch and she wanted thai food. We get our food and we needed duck sauce. It was us and 4 of our nanny kids. We ordered white rice, mixed vegetables, drunken noodles, and 4 egg rolls.
E goes up to ask for duck sauce and gets one. We realize we need more because L and the kids also loves duck sauce so she goes up to ask for more. She comes back upset telling us the woman told her they didn’t have any duck sauce.
Does that even make any sense? When E just went up there and was given one? So I went up to address the front desk person. I want to note NO ONE was up front and watching the area. I’m not sure how long I would have been waiting if I didn’t walk over in front of the kitchen doors to where you can see me.
A woman walks out to which I asked her if you guys have duck sauce or not? She looks confused and points to our table and responds “The one I just gave you?”
I said “Yes. The one you just gave me. We need more duck sauce. We ordered a lot of food. I can literally pay for it, it’s not even that big of a deal. She asked me how many did I want? I responded how many is she willing to give because at this point, even 1 is enough for me. I’m annoyed I even have to argue over duck sauce. She tells me the duck sauce is $1. I handed her $4 and told her to keep the change.
As she starts ringing me up, i said “Next time, don’t tell my white friend you have sauce and my black friend you don’t have sauce. That’s racist and that’s not okay”. Her response was to explain that they only give 1 duck sauce per order (which you need to change. Just charge people for duck sauce if it’s that big of a deal. Who wants to share 1 duck sauce across 7 people when you ordered plenty of food and paid a good amount of money?) I told her that’s fine but you lied to my friend and said you didn’t have any and you can just charge people for sauce. You’d rather keep duck sauce than make money?
All she said back was okay and gave me my duck sauce. She did not have any response after I said thank you. We will never be returning which is a shame because your food was actually really good but we have no interest in coming back to experience hostility over again….. SAUCE. Please do better and train your staff to handle these...
Read moreMy original review was not very kind because the service on my first visit was not very good. It took an hour to get food as they forgot about us even though it was not busy. That was almost a year ago and we gave it another try last night with better results. There was only one couple eating at the restaurant but takeout service was good and they did not forget about us.
The pad thai there is really pretty decent, maybe the best among the local options. No clumps of unseasoned noodles, a decent distribution of sprouts and chicken. I almost always get spicy basil and I got it there last night. The chicken was quite decent and there was a decent amount of onion which I thought was good. They improved on the amount of rice they serve which is helpful because it was spicy. After talking to the waitperson, I decided to go for medium and I did find it spicier than your average medium. It was edible and good but uncomfortable and I think I will have to admit that I am not quite a medium at...
Read moreI got takeout, trying the edamame, tom yum, papaya salad, basil stir fry, and thai iced tea, all really common American Thai options. Everything tasted great. Very flavorful without being too salty. I got everything mild, and the restaurant honored that request; something which I find Thai restaurants struggle to do (their mild is America's hot or at least medium). The tom yum wasn't fishy tasting, and all the meats (I got chicken throughout) were cooked well—nothing rubbery, fatty, or questionable.
The man who gave me my order upon pickup was cheerful. The food was already waiting, with my drink outside the bag so that it wouldn't spill. Nothing was leaking or spilled.
I didn't eat there, but the place was really nice looking and clean. It made quite an ambiance for being in a mini-mall. I'd eat...
