I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ay! Jalisco Restaurant, and I must say, it was a delightful experience filled with authentic Mexican flavors. From the delicious dishes to the warm ambiance, here's why I highly recommend paying a visit to Ay! Jalisco.
First and foremost, the star of the show was the chicken fajitas. Bursting with flavor, the fajitas had a delightful lime-infused taste that added a tangy twist to every bite. The chicken was skillfully cooked, perfectly tender, and avoided the common pitfall of being overcooked. Each fajita was a delightful combination of succulent chicken, sizzling vegetables, and a medley of spices that danced on my palate. I can confidently say that Ay! Jalisco knows how to prepare fajitas that are sure to satisfy any Mexican food lover.
The menu offered a wide range of options, allowing me to explore other dishes as well. While there was a minor hiccup with the server forgetting to bring out the queso and tacitos I had ordered, it did not overshadow the overall experience. The attentive staff promptly rectified the mistake, and I appreciated their efforts in making things right.
To accompany my meal, I opted for a glass of horchata, and it was a decision I did not regret. Ay! Jalisco's horchata was the perfect balance of creamy goodness and subtle sweetness. It provided a refreshing contrast to the flavorful dishes and left me craving for more.
The atmosphere of Ay! Jalisco Restaurant was inviting and had a cozy Mexican charm. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, ready to offer suggestions and answer any questions about the menu. The vibrant decor and lively music added to the overall ambiance, making it an enjoyable place to dine with family and friends.
Overall, Ay! Jalisco Restaurant offers a delightful Mexican dining experience with its flavorful chicken fajitas, refreshing horchata, and warm ambiance. While there was a minor hiccup with the missing appetizers, the attentive staff and their prompt resolution of the issue showed their commitment to customer satisfaction. If you're looking for a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine, Ay! Jalisco is a restaurant worth...
Read moreI went here for dinner with my sister and niece and it’s was good. The food was okay, I got the Cozumel combo which is 3 ribs and either chicken or steak fajitas. My sister ordered the enchiladas combo; one steak, one chicken and one cheese. Usually it comes with sauce red or green, but it didn’t just cheese on top and the meat was dry. The server was good in the beginning, however when it was time for the check she added a 18% gratuity for a party of two and on the check it said party of 4. I walked over to the server counter and asked her why is the automatic gratuity added on a party of 2 and a 3 year old and if this is normal here. Another male server answered because she didn’t understand my question and called him over, he said I can take it off. I asked him again do they normally add this for parties of 2 and he said no. It’s clear she was pre-judging and assuming she wouldn’t get tipped because we are black and slipped in the gratuity. This was my first time at this restaurant and if the server had not have been sneaky I would have come back, but I cannot tolerate this blatant racism. This is the second Hispanic restaurant to do this to me and my family. I know gratuity is added to large parties, but not for a party of 2 or 3. Her actions ruined my whole experience. They will NEVER get my business again and I say to any other black person going, be mindful of how they treat us. We do NOT need to support this type of establishment!
I use to be a server so I understand servers make no hourly and rely solely on tips. Despite her sneakiness, I still tipped her however, I will never come back. That action forfeits any money earned for service given, but the server in me could not just dine and not tip for the service.
This is 2025 and racism is still prevalent, we as living beings on earth need to do and be better. God created us all. We come in different shapes, sizes and color but our bodies all function the same. If you prick us do we not bleed, if you tickle us do we not laugh, if you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we...
Read moreThe wife and I have been going to this place since 1998. We don't go as often now so as to vary our eating habits, but I could probably eat here every day and walk away happy.
Some of the platters are standard tex-mex fare, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos, and so on. Mixed in are some El Salvadorean food like papusas, tamales, and some soups. While I believe the meat used to be of higher quality about 4+ years ago, the meat is still better than what you will get at many other places with similar pricing (such as Guapos @ Rio). Beverages are the standard fare with a few other options that should be familiar to those from South America.
I can't say that everyone there provides the best service, but the majority of them have worked there the entire time I've been going and have always bent over backwards for the needs of myself and those who eat at the table with me. The owner, if in, will typically check to make sure everything is okay and ask how everyone is doing. If you have a problem, they want you to tell them so they can fix it.
The decor was recently improved, though it still feels a bit hid away and not very open and inviting, a problem stemmed by the lack of room at the location itself which is something they can't change.
They did open a new Ay Jalisco off of Rockville Pike/355 and we've eaten there a few times. While the decor is nicer there, the wife and I found the food to be better at the original location off of Snouffer...
