I wanted to enjoy Brick. Really I did. It has nice atmosphere. It looks very classy. It has the feel of a great place to eat. Unfortunately, I really like steak, so for the second time I ordered steak and it just wasn't good. I will say that everyone else at my table (who did not order steak) really enjoyed their meals. This time we got a fillet mignon and a new York strip. Both were raw. I like mine medium, as does my friend. These were not medium. I could tell as I cut into it that it had the feel of a not cooked steak. Thankfully the person delivering it asked us to cut into them before leaving. She did take them both back for further cooking. By the time they returned, everyone else had finished their food. The steaks were medium though. Mine was rather thin and flavorless for a New York strip. Cutting it in half (per their request) before it was recooked may have been a factor. My friend said his filet mignon was pretty good and had no further complaints once it was cooked. The previous time I went here (which was like a year back), my steak was super well done. Not a bit of pink anywhere in it. I'm the sort to joke about such a thing, so when the waitress asked how it was cooked I told her it was incinerated and showed her. She offered to take it back to which I politely declined (as I will eat anything but raw, I just wont enjoy it). She said no really, that is obviously wrong...I'm going to take it and have it fixed. So she lifted it up and walked off with it. I really was OK with eating it as the food had taken a bit. So she brought a new steak a bit later, and it was cooked correctly but wasn't great. I took this as an off night, which is why I tried again a year later. The moral of the story seems to be to just not order the steak. Everyone else enjoyed their food and it seems like a nice place. For the record, I'm not that picky of an eater. I can probably count the number of times I have sent food back on one hand in my lifetime. It just so happens that it happened twice here (and one time...

Read moreMy husband and I decided to eat dinner at Brick before going to the Kennedy Center for a show on Friday December 13, 2024. We will NEVER go back!!!
To start, we were seated in the bar. As with normal bar areas, it was noisy which made having a conversation difficult. The waitress was great!! She was very nice and seemed friendly.
We had the crispy Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer. They had an interesting flavor but were pretty good. My entree was the Surf & Turf (steak, 3 jumbo shrimp with lobster sauce on top of mashed potatoes). My husband had the salmon dish with sweet potatoes and a tomato sauce.
Our food tasted wonderful! It was full of flavor and filling. However, while letting my food settle after I ate, my stomach began to become upset. I ignored it as if it was just a sign of it being full. No, that was not it. I believe it was food poisoning. Our entire evening was ruined. I was nauseous and uncomfortable ALL evening. I couldn't focus on the show because I was in so much pain and so uncomfortable. During intermission, I was able to use the bathroom which relieved some pain and discomfort but not all. It would come in waves ALL night. The car ride to/from the Kennedy Ctr was miserable. I had to hold back vomiting or losing my bowels. These feelings continued throughout the weekend. Horrible stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and exhaustion.
After talking about my experience with family members and friends, others have had the same reaction to the food they've eaten at Brick. I am pretty sure something I ate at this establishment wasn’t cooked properly or was not fresh. I will never go back. I will share my experience with anyone who asks about...
