Found this on Yelp as we were driving out towards Broome's Island. The reviews and the pictures looked great. It's a cute building and learning about the historical details was nice. The interior of the restaurant is well decorated and very comfortable.
We sat at the bar and had a few appetizers and dessert along with a couple Bloody Marys. Bloody Marys were good. The mussels were heavy with mustard which overpowered the dish. Usually, we'd scoop up all the broth with the bread, but the overwhelming amount of mustard meant it went to waste. You can see in the photos that there are dollops of mustard that didn't get mixed in well. We tried the poutine. I've had a lot better where the cheese curds weren't so salty and melted a bit more. The chicken gravy that goes on top was a downer. I had asked what type of gravy they used and our server checked. When she came back that it was chicken, I was ok with them pouring it on... but I should have asked them to put it on the side. The gravy ruined it for us. The octopus app was tasty, but it was very small portion compared to the mussels and poutine. The peach crisp was meh as the crisp was not crisp at all... but the ice cream that they serve with it was a wow! That's worth a star itself! I'd buy the ice cream by the gallon if I knew where it was from!
1 star for the food. 1 more star cause the staff was great. 1 star for the ice cream although they don't make it in house. So, 3 stars for this place. I feel like the chef has some great ideas, but they need to mature a bit. Foods need a bit more balance. Presentation needs more...
Read moreMy Husband and I along with 2 other couples went during the soft opening, I believe it was their 2nd night. The interior has changed and we love it. Hues of blue and silver offered a feeling of sofistication and a light modern flare. We of course started the evening out correctly...at the bar. We tried each signature drink to share. The Basil Mojito OMG!!! My forever new drink. The bartenders were amazing with their service and knowledge and the willingness to get a little crazy with our version of mixology. We spent a good amount of time there. Calvert is a small county so we saw a few people who we knew. We were escourted to our table. Our server was Sean (sp?). Excellent service. He offered suggestions and displayed knowledge of both food and drink. We ordered almost all of the appetizers to share. Not one appetizer dissappointed us. However the TOP favorites were the Crab Pot Pie Puff, Mussels and Warm Olives. The bread that is served is also good, you have two types, a soft, moist, warm cornbread and Focaccia with oil. We each ordered a different main course to pass and share. The TOP favs The Crab Cake...yes Jerry's has competition. The Bolgenese, Pork Loin and The Sirloin. The Chef came out to inquire about our meals and we all complimented and critiqued as well as made suggestions. He was very gracious and received our thoughts well. Give the team patience and time to grow and get use to each other. We feel Heritage will fill the gap that the Old Field Inn left empty for fine dining here in...
Read moreOur waiter was a bit terse at first but warmed up as the evening progressed and the hostess was delightful. The food was outstanding. My aunt selected the fried chicken dinner which came with mashed Yukon gold potatoes and collard greens. She said the chicken was probably the best she had ever eaten and she could not get over how delicious the greens were. I selected the pork tenderloin with shiitake mushrooms, asparagus, and grits. It was truly exquisite. The flavors were rich and amazing and everything was cooked to perfection. The corn bread that came in the bread basic was exceptionally good~moist and flavorful. The olive oil that was brought out for dipping was perfect The only suggestion we had was that the grilled peach salad would have actually tasted better with simply the fresh peaches in it. Grilling actually detracted from the flavor. I rarely if ever order a cocktail but I was tempted by the craft cocktail menu and ordered a blackberry mint julep. It was delicious and I actually finished the drink, a rarity. This restaurant is a true gem for southern Maryland. I urge you to give Heritage 485 a try. Also has a cozy newly...
