I visited this place on our way to a hike in Cascade Falls.
This is adjacent to the shell gas station and has its own kitchen. It is also right next to a small strip of shops that seemed to have Mexican food but this place was doing brisk business and had a lot of people coming in and placing orders. I saw many locals come in and order and that reinforced my perception that it was pretty authentic and I really DIG such places! The man at the desk taking the orders was courteous and prompt. He had 3 ladies working the kitchen and making the food and they were quick.
They have 2 long tables with high chairs but we chose to take our food to-go.
We got the flautas (2 chicken and 1 pork) while I got the steak burrito. My friend said her chicken and pork were missing seasoning and could have used some flavor but mine was pretty good.
My burrito although good, was too soft due to the warm rice and beans. I would have liked the burrito slightly firm to hold so I didn't have to drop half my contents and then eat with a fork later .. but it was pretty good in flavor. Unlike the other reviewer who said it was very oily (I saw that before I went and was a little weary), I didn't find mine like that .. so points there.
All in, although my friend didn't like the overall flavor and experience (she's isn't a huge fan of gas station food), I'd definitely go back and ask them to slightly toast my burrito and also not cut in half so the contents...
Read moreLunch special, extra cilantro with both picante and verde salsa or 2 verde. The lunch special is 3 tacos with cilantro, meat, cheese, onion and lime sautéed on the flat top in lard and meat juices. And come with a small side of soup made with the same filling to dip your tacos in. Treat it like a french dip where they are giving you the soup used to marinate the meat. Mmmm
Update The lunch special changes and the Tacos con consome are now the Chef special Red Tacos.
The tortas & machetes are wonderful too, I just cannot get past the lunch special to order them.
The red salsa is spicy so grab a coke or soda to cleanse your pallet afterword.
Order quickly and step aside the gas station location serves the workers on lunch break while the resturant across the parking lot is for those not hustling.
The cashier usually knows english, but not much. If you have questions about the menu go to...
Read moreSadly, I can't trust this place anymore. Went in, was charged more than the listed price. I didn't notice immediately, but when I did, I asked about it. First she said that it's because I ordered two, when I pointed out the cost of two was less than what I was charged, she shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. When I wouldn't accept that, she then said the extra $2.50 per plate was because of the cost of eggs. There was one egg on each order (which was extremely over cooked btw), so after I went home this felt super suspicious to me. Had a friend go in and order my same order later that week. She was charged the listed price not the "new inflated" price I was charged. I love supporting small business, and I'm extremely disappointed that I can't trust this...
