Dine in... do not get take out. The difference in the quality of the food is monumental.
Last year I had one of my birthday meals here and the food was amazing, the cocktails were great, the service was attentive. My boyfriend and I had a great time and recommended the restaurant to several people. My review on yelp was glowing.
This week we returned for take out. We had just returned from a highly disappointing trip to Saint Michael's and didn't have the wherewithal to spend time in an actual restaurant. What a mistake.
We got:
East West Duck which was dry, but my cats liked it.
Fried dumplings - the highlight of the meal. The filling is ample and delicious, could use a little ginger but that's my preference
Schezuan beef - my boyfriend is on a Schezuan kick and this one has been the worst so far. If I had known in advance that he was going to order this I would have suggested that we go to a spot closer to home, China House, in Dundalk where they make their own sauces.
Double Cooked pork - so vegetable heavy it's ridiculous that they even mention the pork in the name. We recently had double cooked pork belly at kung fu 12 in Timonium and were hoping for something similar to that, but alas east west's version is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum from the mind blowing delight we had in Timonium.
Hot and sour soup - inedible. No hot at all. A mild sour flavor and nothing else, which is weird because it LOOKS good.
Some sort of spicy red soup with two shrimps that my boyfriend ordered by mistake that was horrendous.
Egg rolls - the only thing my boyfriend enjoyed, but the hot mustard sauce tasted "like a rubber hose,"
I know you roll the dice when you get take out. This one came...
Read moreI've been patronizing this establishment for close to 20 years, I usually go there for lunch, my girlfriends and I. But today my friends and I went there today for the Sunday brunch. The server was asked to bring separate checks, she did. My total was $27.56. I placed $28 into the little brown folder and handed it a female that was collecting the money. She walked away and then returns to the table and opens the small brown folder and inside is my check along with the $28 that I placed inside, she hands it back to me , I took it. I looked at it and thought maybe I miscounted, but I didn't I handed it back to her and stated there is $28 and said to me, tip, what no tip, the tip was not included I stated to her that I'm aware the tip was not included, I will leave the tip on the table. She walked away. The server, a tall slim long-haired Asian woman returns to the table with the little brown folder, lays it on the table, opens it up and said this is your change. She told me her co worker did no wrong. She said you want the change I said yes. I want my change. She said tip was not included, I said I'm very well aware of that. Then she started going into a math lesson. I said to her I can do the math, and also I was going to leave a tip on the table. But after the way I was treated by her and her coworker I wasn't leaving a thing. A tip is gratuity for excellent service, and are earned, not by offending or trying to belittling a customer. If she wants to make money she needs to learn how to talk to people. You don't ask people or tell people to...
Read moreI live in Baltimore and was out running errands in the burbs, and just stumbled on this place by chance. I searched for a takeout place so I could bring dinner home, and Jessica's popped up. It's really hard to get good Chinese food in the city (which really baffles me) which means I don't eat it often...so I was 100% down to try this place.
I ordered chicken in hot garlic sauce for me, pad thai for my bf, and supreme crispy eggplant to share. Omg, that eggplant and the dipping sauce... We gobbled the whole thing down in one sitting. Def one of our top 5 favorite dishes we've ever ordered at a Chinese place. My chicken in hot garlic sauce was good but nothing special, and it wasn't spicy at all, though it was actually better as leftovers...I guess it had more time to marinate in the sauce. My bf's pad thai however, was very flavorful, I would definitely order that for myself. We both had enough for leftovers the next day. I only wish this place was closer to home, I would like to try some more things on the menu 😥 but since my bf works kinda near there, he will probably be getting recruited to bring dinner home...
