Donāt judge a book by itās cover š. Not a fancy brick n mortar strip-mall. Just a small little quaint house in the middle of Ft WA t is easy access to highway. Food was awesome - fresh & flavorful. And I love that they donāt drown food in sugar (w/c is what many do to ākeep customers coming for moreā). Flavors are real. We had Caldereta, Giniling, Dinuguan, Pakbet, Sinigang (pork cut a bit large but oh so tender & tasty), Laing (I canāt make this, so WOW! Great find, as this is a time consuming labor of love dish), Chicken Adobo (flavor was great except the cross cut drumsticks⦠BUT, thatās typical of ALL Filipino restaurants so no points off when comparing. If I can suggest, try thighs cut in 3 - 2 meaty side pieces & bone/meat in the middle. Then you always know what to portion servings. This would put Lumingās above the rest). The Veggie Lumpia - wow, large & yum!!! Kudos to the chef as all the veggies cooked to perfection. My daughter didnāt love okra until today. Top it with Halo-Halo, had my daughter smiling š). Next time, Iām trying Coconut Bagoong Jackfruit, BBQ sticks, Shanghai Lumpia, Menudo, Mongo, & whatever else Staff said rotates in.
Coming back for more, after a diet, lol coz my eyes wanted everything. Good portions & weāll-priced. Well priced at $8.99 for 2 choices (thatās a typical to-go meal price these days, if not cheaper than fast-food Chipotle or Pizza).
I HAD another favorite closer spot in Beltsville that I used for catering too, but theyāve revamped in the wrong direction (over-priced for small portions & not well-made any longer). I was disappointed & choose not to spend my time or hard earned $ there. Today my daughter & I were craving. So googled in search of our Food Culture.
Lumingās has friendly, helpful staff. We dined in their small maybe 20pax space. They cleaned after each customer dined. Customers of all ethnicities came thru which shows you the food is great (as this is hard to pull off, in comparison to other booming ethnic restaurants). If Lumingās had a restaurant in all corners of MD, Filipino Food would be raised to another level. Just saying guys š, you have what it takes. Your food is simple, traditional, & well-made for Turo-turo style. We eat with our eyes first & Iāll say this - well done!!! I will drive the extra distance for Lumingās.
My pic doesnāt do justice. I wish I took photo of my actual food but I forgot during my excitement eating. Still, an example of how clean & fresh food looked even after a slew of customers...
Ā Ā Ā Read more4/11/2020 Updated Review: Wanted to give them another chance and this visit was worse than the last. The door sign said they open at 8 am so when we were trying to go in, the guy just kept looking at us. He let us in after 5 minutes and said, we weren't supposed to be let in until 10am because that is when they open. So then we're wondering why does the sign then says 8? And he ignored us. Upon entering this tiny place, there were 3 lines marked with bright tape, I'm guessing for the social distancing aspect but they were only probably 3 ft apart. Then out comes one of the older filipino ladies. She asked us what we wanted. I looked at the food, and they seemed to have just made it. I asked the lady how much the fried milkfish is and she said $10. I then said oh, that's expensive! So I decided to get the combo of menudo and paksiw milkfish and she said it would cost another dollar for the milkfish, I said that's fine. She then put the paksiw in a separate container and she put the smallest cut of the fish. Not the head, not the tail, the belly part that was like the smallest part of meat and shes charging me an extra dollar?! Then she started putting eggplant. I hate eggplants and asked if she can just put Bittermelon. I said it twice and she just ignored me putting 1 slice of eggplant, and 1 slice of Bittermelon. And 1 ladle of soup, the whole thing literally filled 1/3 of the plastic container. I then said I'd get 3 pork bbq's. The combo, with extra dollar charge and 3 pork bbq's cost $17.44. The whole time she was wearing gloves btw, she didnt remove it upon entering the room when she asked us what we wanted to her ringing up the register, handing my husband the pen to sign, to giving him the receipt to going back and stirring the foods from shere you choose to buy...she did not remove her gloves. I was so disgusted at how unsanitary she is. Can you imagine if she was handling someone that was sick? She just passed it to all the customers. Also, none of them were wearing face mask. I will not be back here. I 'm truly disappointed and disgusted by the lack of care from people like her. Also, I reheated the food to make sure we didnt get sick.
1st Review I didnt realize the food was expensive for what we had. The pork barbecue was so dry it was like eating beef jerky. The combo I ordered was minuscule and was given two meats for each dish. The rice was alot but who wants that? The kutsinta is $5 for 5 pieces...that's like a dollar each...totally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is a hidden gem! I can't believe I am only now hip to this spot . It might not look like much but let me tell you... the food is fantastic, and this coming from someone who usually doesn't enjoy eating pork (other than bacon).
They have so many cute and new treat options there. Bao buns, gooey desserts, flan, delicious juices and breads.
I came here off a whim. I searched on Google places to eat near me and I saw this place. I had never has Philippino food before so I thought I'd try it. And boy am I glad I did. Everything smelled so good even from outside. I ordered a triple platter the first day, and I loved the food so much I had to come back for lunch the next day.
Service here was lovely. I had so many questions. And to top it off, thr prices are so reasonable!
I have no idea what any of the food is called but please look at my pictures.
Day 1, I had Halo halo (shaved ice), 1 skewer of the chicken BBQ, the pink pork and peppers dish, taro leaves and pork dish, and this dark pork curry. Every single item was soo flavorful. I don't like cooked pork because of the smell but!! The pork was so well cooked, no smell, and it was so tender and yummy in every dish. The Pink pork dish was a little spicy but manageable. It was super addictive! Like I couldn't stop eating it. The taro leaves curry had a very unique flavor that I've never tasted before. Also quite addictive. I had a dark pork curry, it was tasty but over shadowed by the flavors of thr other two items. Now, the chicken BBQ, I mean it was phenomenal. So we'll cooked, amazing BBQ flavors and sweetness. Also quite addictive. And they did not stick to the skewer and easily came off when pulled at. I also had the the three layer gooey dessert with toasted coconut flakes. It is similar to like a mochi type dessert. It was also very yummy.
I loved the food so much I had to go back a second day!
Day 2, I had the taro leaves again and the pink pork dishes. I took home 5 skewers of the chicken BBQ. This time I got the bone in chicken. Super tender, well come and addictive flavors. I don't know how to describe it any other way. Rich curry flavors and just yum.
I hope this helps....
