The best part of Mayorga Organics is their customer engagement!
I love coffee and can never get enough of new cafes and new roasters. We were in Rockville for shopping and lunch, and we decided to drop by Mayorga for a pick-me-up. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Eduardo. He told us that he could make any pourover we wanted from the variety of beans they roast, and we took a couple of minutes to look at the shelves.
I opted for their Honduras Capucas in a V60 pourover. This one has a medium roast profile with notes of maple, chocolate, and plum. In terms of brewing methods, Mayorga offers three kinds - V60 single, Chemex, or French Press. V60 is $3.50, French Press is $6, and Chemex is $7. In addition, they also offer espresso drinks and cold-brewed ice coffee (either as a pint or growler).
Everything Mayorga related is organic. All organic ingredients. The baristas and staff are all incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their brewing methods and their bean varieties. Very community-oriented and more of a learning, educational experience.
The roasting and distribution facility is located onsite, which is really neat because they host tours. Additionally, they have demos and roadshows around the area, mostly at Whole Foods and Costco. I've also seen their coffee beans at Whole Foods and Costco...
Read moreCoffee enthusiasts - this is the place. I've been drinking Mayorga coffee since 2005. I used to frequent their cafes in Silver Spring and Rockville but was saddened when they systematically closed their retail locations starting circa 2010. However, now they've expanded their hours at their new roasting facility, which houses a full-service coffee boutique (not really a cafe: no real seating or food). Their beans are consistently top notch and come from a variety of curated farms with which Mayorga has established lasting, sustainable partnerships. The baristas are always friendly and knowledgeable. The location offers everything from beans to pour overs to growlers of cold brew to brewing accessories. Here, you can get your daily coffee fix or stock up on beans and cold brew for the week.
This is a singular local business that focuses on fostering community wherever they work in the world. Moreover, their beans, coffee, and service are truly excellent, without par in the area. Try it once. If you appreciate coffee, you'll become a customer for life.
Note that their beans can also be found online, as well as at the local Costcos and some regional...

Used to have:
They've become a sort of mid-tier generic coffee roaster that caters to the overall regular coffee consumer instead of a roaster with specialty/third-wave coffees, which explains why their coffee costs much less than at other roasters.
I placed an order for pickup and received two-week-old coffee. After asking about it, they told me the cut-off for coffee is 14 days after being roasted, so technically not bad, but could have a better practice of first-in-first-out.
Customer service seems more inclined to defend their practices than...
