The Bean Bag Bakery & Deli! What a wonderful discovery! I'm sure I'm late to the party, but so glad to be in the know' now!
I was having my car repaired on a little shop nearby and was told the repair would take half a day. Not knowing where I would hang out for that long, the shop owner told me to walk around the corner to The Bean Bag. The moment I walked in the door, the first thing that caught my eye was how cute it is decorated. It's a fusion of Old country store meets New York City deli with a splash of tribute to all Washington sports teams. No sooner had I stepped into the deli when the owner greeted me from the back and said, " Welcome to the Bean Bag". I told him my car is being repaired on the corner and he even welcomed me to sit down without ordering anything if I wanted, but of course, I DID want! I ordered an egg reakfast sandwich. There's not much to go wrong on an egg sandwich, but there's a whole lot that can go right and The Bean Bag mastered it all. My sandwich resembled the infamous "Dagwood sandwich" stacked high with the goodies. ( If you catch that reference, you're in your '50s or older, lol) I love that they offered oat milk or almond milk for the coffee as well. During my time at The Bean Bag, I watched so many come in that were welcomed as family and I could tell they were the locals that knew all the employees. I also saw a huge catering order put together that was taken out for delivery. This place is quite impressive and I am glad to know how busy this little gem of a place is located in a very inconspicuous little strip shopping center that I've probably driven by many times and never knew was here. They have a cute seating area outside that is very inviting. Cute wooden chairs and tables with fresh sunflowers make for a great space to enjoy! Big spacious umbrellas shield from sun and rain and add a nice cafe aesthetic too!
For cookie connoisseurs, I also noticed they have giant family recipe homemade cookies. They look like they would make an excellent hostess gift too as I saw some platters wrapped in adorable red polka dot cellophane paper is that made a really cheerful gift presentation!
Thank you so much to the warm and welcoming owner of The Bean Bag for behind so hospitable and for making my first experience here one to remember! Let's hope my car breaks down again so I can return....wait, no....scrap...
Read moreI've passed by The BeanBag Deli so many times because I usually visit the nail spa next to it, but I always assumed it was closed because I visit the salon Saturday afternoons. I took a day off from work yesterday, 3/17/23, to commence my birthday weekend by going to the nail place, and I decided I'd give this spot a try out of curiosity. First, everyone is SUPER FRIENDLY and welcoming! The nice guy who welcomed me and made my sandwich reminded of WWE Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels, in how he looked and spoke. I know that's random, but I couldn't help but tell my hubby who is a WWE loyalist. Lol There was also a super sweet and friendly lady who packed my sugar cookie who reminded me of my awesome 5th grade teacher. This establishment could best described as having a sense of familiarity and a neighborly feel, something akin to "Cheers" where everybody would probably know your name (if you gave it), and they would always be glad you came if you're a regular customer. 😆
Now, the sandwich? I gobbled that thing up on my ride home, so I have no pictures. I ordered bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant, and I promise you it's the best I've ever had, this side of the Mississippi!!! It was quite flling, the cheese was nicely melted, and the bacon was the perfect amount of crispy/chewy for my liking. The croissant was buttery and didn't require any extra condiment like jelly-- which is typically what I have to add to croissant sandwiches elsewhere because they're typically dry in texture and taste. 10 out of 10! The sugar cookie was okay. I enjoyed the chewiness in texture, but I didn't really like the taste as much. I'm kinda picky when it comes to baked sweets because I bake from scratch at home, so it's more of a matter of preference for me. I would still give the cookie an 8 out of 10 because it was large and great in texture, and I could see others throughly enjoying it. I think I'll try another flavor the next time I stop by.
I should've checked a long time ago because I just discovered they're open Saturday mornings. I'll have to return with my husband in hopes of seeing "Shawn Michaels" again (lol) and so he can try their food. I highly recommend The...
Read moreFirst time I have been in this establishment and likely the last. I was given 2 10 dollar gift cards from a good friend of mine as a gift less than a year ago. I attempted to use them during this trip and initially was told that it would take some time to validate them. I ordered my food and when it was ready the lady proceeded to tell me that they had no way of verifying that there was monetary value on the cards and that they were at least 6 years old, which I found completely preposterous. She further explained that there gift cards lose 2 dollars in value every month they are not used so the likelihood of them having any money was slim to none. I found her demeanor to be very crass and unapologetic. I checked with the person who gave them to me and he confirmed that he bought them shortly before giving them to me so there is no way they are 6 years old.
Being hungry and in somewhat of a rush to get back to work I simply paid for my food. I was charged 16.82 for a "large" chicken cheese steak sub, a bag of chips, and a can of soda. The "large" sandwich was presented to me in a french fry paper boat. How does a sandwich labeled as large fit in a french fry boat? The chicken was sliced and not chopped\grilled like most every other cheese steak I've had. They also put lettuce, tomato, and mayo on it which I specifically did not request. By comparison I could go to jersey Mike's and spend about the same amount and get a sandwich about twice as large and a 20 ounce bottomless soda. The only redeeming quality is that the food was fresh and tasted fairly good. Even still, not a good value for the money and questionable service to...
