Mr. Souvlaki is the restaurant Forest Hill has been waiting for. They have excellently prepared Greek food!
Do not let the price point deter you, the 16 dollar platter is absolutely worth it. The portions are huge! We ordered the chicken gyro & authentic gyro (pork) platter. Both with sides of roasted vegetables and Greek salads.
The highlight was the protein. The fattiness of the pork locked in so much flavor, but was incredibly tender (no chewiness). The pork meat also had pieces of burnt smoky ends. Now I’m not talking burnt burnt, but the crispiness that can only be achieved by slow roasting the meat vertically rotisserie style. The outside gets crispy and locks the moisture and flavor in the interior meat. When it’s shaved off you get the best of both worlds. Absolutely delicious. The chicken has the same balance of tender and crisp. It’s a tad drier than the pork because chicken doesn’t have the delight of fat, but it’s still amazing! Both are packed with flavor. Couldn’t go wrong with either (warning you will have leftovers). The roasted vegetables were strongly seasoned, but delicious. A true highlight. The pita was good. The spinach pie had a good amount of filling, it’s mostly spinach missing the balance of feta. The phyllo dough doesn’t travel well (which I went in knowing, it loses its crisp very quickly).
Now, don’t waste your time with the side Greek salad. Good amount of ingredients, but the dressing is watery and tasteless. I’d pick another side for the platter or do double veg - you won’t be disappointed with that. Also, the tzatziki sauce is subpar. It has a muted yogurt flavor - it’s missing tang and dill. I doctored it up with a fresh squeeze of lemon and some extra dill, which saved it.
This was my first time, but absolutely not my last. They exceeded my expectations and I will eat through the entire menu because everything looked fantastic and packed...
Read moreWhat a fantastic Greek carry out! They have some indoor seating available in a clean and welcoming environment. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I thought it was cool that when some customers came in and started ordering in Greek one of the staff members also spoke the language and was able to converse with them while their order was being made. That and the Greek music was a fun and authentic touch. Bit let ke tell you- The food is amazing. A friend and I ordered the spanakopita, dolmades, gyro platter with roasted potatoes and grilled veggies, the falafel platter with a Greek salad and Greek fries and souvlaki skewers. Everything came with pita and tatziki sauce...so basically we had enough food to feed four people instead of two. Everything was delicious, I especially liked the dolmades which is meat free and served warm. The spankopita was flaky and very good. The gyro platter and falafel was great but the absolute standout for me was the pork souvlaki skewers. They were perfection- moist, tender, flavorful and they were the delicious grilled meat scent we caught on the way in. Definitely will order all this again when I'm ready to eat again in a few days, lol. I also ordered some baklava to go but didn't have room to sample tonight. It looks very good with some honey leaking out of the sides. I'm looking forward to that! This is a highly recommended small...
Read moreI was very happy to see this place on Google maps. I love Greek food. We stopped in on Sunday afternoon. It's a small place with five (maybe?) tables. It wasn't crowded when we were here. We over ordered so was could taste everything. First off, service was great. You order at the counter and then the food is brought out to you. Everything came out pretty quickly and freshly made. The French fries are great. Very much like boardwalk fires. The lentil soup is very good. The Greek salad, well, what can I say? I know most people don't love salads but I loved this one. Good Greek dressing! Husband's chicken pita wrap was amazing. It was difficult - because the thing is huge - but he ate the whole thing. My falafel pita wrap was also amazing. I saved most of mine for another meal. The falafel was great. I've had a hard time finding really great falafel so I was extra happy. Their falafel is flatter and thinner than what you're used to do so it's perfect, crispy, flavorful and not to dense. The grape leaves... Oh... Worth the 40 minute drive to go get more! Portions are huge. Prices are more than fair for the amount of food you get. Oh, and they have beer and wine. We didn't get any this time but I liked that it...
