We went on a Friday night and the place wasn't overly crowded, but this place wasn't all that different than an average ice cream place. The decor was cute, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and it was very clean. However, I can't get past the price and the so-so ice cream. It is $3.50 for a very tiny kiddie cup and $4 for a single scoop. These would be acceptable prices if the ice cream tasted better. It's homemade in the store but most of the flavors were simply vanilla flavor with something mixed in (and not enough of the extras mixed in). The salted caramel tasted a lot like the peanut butter cup and the mint tasted like vanilla with a few mint chocolate chips. Quite simply, the ice cream didn't taste better than what I can get from the supermarket. Worse yet, 3 of the 4 of us that had the ice cream were sick to our stomach a couple hours later. I don't think it was food poisoning, but rather the ice cream was just too much fat and salt for our systems. It wasn't bad ice cream, but it certainly wasn't great. In the end, it was a nice atmosphere, the staff were great, but the ice cream wasn't anything special and...
Read moreNorwood Ice Cream was an all-around disappointing experience. The two flavors I ordered were clearly freezer burnt and crumbled apart just trying to scoop them, which is pretty unacceptable for a place serving ice cream. To make matters worse, the staff refused to put toppings directly on top of the ice cream—a bizarre and unreasonable practice that I’ve never encountered at any decent ice cream shop. When asked, they claimed it wasn’t allowed, which left me baffled. As if the poor quality of the ice cream and service wasn’t enough, the taste was bland and icy. The place itself wasn’t much better—the floors were sticky and downright gross. I honestly don’t understand how this place has any positive reviews; they must be from people who haven’t been to any other ice cream shop. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreThere have been many ice cream shops that have come and gone, and I have to say I have never met a more knowledgeable and well-spoken young man than the one I met here at Norwoods. I won't say his name in the interest of privacy, but Elliot took me on a verbal journey on the history of ice cream. I have never before thought that ice cream could have such a rich and colourful (and delicious!) past. I entered the shop a supposed expert in ice cream and cream confectionaries in general, and left humbled and embarrassed, but willing to learn more. I hope that in the future Elliot can treat me to more stories of the vibrant story that ice...
