I've been to this establishment several times. I visited again September 2020 because I wanted to host a Jamaican-themed event and planned on using Sapodillas as my caterer.
I definitely liked the extensive offerings on their website, but noticed that they didn't include pricing for any of the catering items. So I decided to visit beforehand and ask some preliminary questions and clear my concerns.
When I arrived there weren't any customers inside or waiting (COVID-19 only allows one person inside to order at a time). However, the owner, Ms. Marva, still seemed a bit frazzled and rushed. I was expecting to have a sit down with someone to answer all of my questions. But Ms. Marva was quite informative and helpful. Still, I was a bit concerned when she wrote down what I wanted on a scrap sheet of torn paper, with the prices included....uhmmmm okay.
Mind you, I always recon a bit early and wasn't ready to actually place the order yet, just wanted to know how much food I needed and the prices. I was expecting a list of items and prices on a document or emailed to me. I digress.
Here is what I decided to order for around 25 - 30 people:
-Medium Pan Jerk Wings $125
-Medium Pan Curry Chicken $125
-Half Pan Peas and Rice $35
-Half Pan Potatoe Salad $40
-Mixed Salad $35
-20 DEG Sodas $3 each - $60
-Jerk Sauce $5
On the day that I actually decided to order (1 week before the event) I went back to the venue, as I wasn't comfortable giving my debit card information over the phone, it was again a bit hectic and rushed. However, I was able to place the order after a bit of a wait and some confusion with pricing. (I had a copy of the original prices I was quoted)
When I went to pick up the order I was pleasantly pleased that everything was ready on TIME and smelled/looked amazing!!!
Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was an absolute HIT!!!! My guests ate and then came back for seconds and thirds. And then took food home w/them, lol. Even the star of the party had around four helpings!!! I've never seen this before!
The event was truly successful in part to Ms. Marva, her chef and staff. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!! Thank you!!!!
I would HIGHLY recommend and return. My two cents to Sapodillas...hire an Event Manager/Catering Manager. The owner should not have to deal w/catering orders in such a busy, but successful establishment. This was the reason why I removed one star.
If you are viewing the pictures, be advised that I made the Smothered Ox Tails and Green Beans w/bacon myself,...
Read morePOOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. First time in this restaurant and the last. Can't say whether the food is any good because I did not get a chance to experience it. I asked that my vegetables be placed in a separate container from the rest of my food and I was told that that the owners did not like to do that and that they would charge extra i said that the extra charge was fine and proceeded to pay the $30 plus for my meals. After being given my receipt and leaving a tip for the jar I was approached and told that I had to pay .50 cents more for the extra container for my vegetables. I stated that while i didn't have a problem with the extra .50 cents the charge should have been assessed when I actually paid and not assessed after I already had my receipt and waiting on my meal. After much back and forth with the clerk I asked for a refund after which I was called belligerent, my credit card was slammed on the counter and my refund receipt tossed at me I left this...
Read moreI live in the neighborhood and have been disappointed 100% of the time by visiting this restaurant. I wrote them off because of their really bad service. The service has always been bad but I decided to take a chance on them. Last week, I visited them and was greeted by a pleasant young lady and purchased two beef patties. When I got home and bit into the first one, it was dry and old, so I threw it out. The second one was fresh and tasty.
Today, I walked in and there was nobody at the counter. I was the only customer in the store. I saw two women talking in the back. Once we made eye contact, I assumed that either one would come up front. Instead, they continued to talk to each other both walked away into another room in the back. I then saw a man walk past the doorway and again I was ignored.
I tried to give them a chance, but I will not be returning. It’s no wonder that they close at 6pm (dinner time). They will never build a customer base with such...
