I ordered a drink special in the bar while waiting for a table. Table was ready so I took my drink and went to the dining room. When seated a manager visited my table and told me I had to finish my drink in the bar because it was a bar special. Really???? I asked for a drink refund and left and went to Outback and ate! I won't be back!
UPDATE NEW REVIEW: It's been about 2 years since I have been to Silver Spring Mining Company. I thought I would try it again. I purchased a discount voucher off line so for $15 I was able to get $30 worth of food. When we arrived, we chose the bar so that we could take advantage of the TV set for a sports game. Wow! The prices have gone up. The food was good, however, instead of two side dishes with the entree, you now only get one....and the prices are higher! My friend ordered a side dish of corn with his entree as an extra side. He was charged $4 for a SMALL bowl of corn in addition to the $23 for the Sea Scallop Entree! So, his dinner was $27. I ordered ribs for $20 and got only one side. We both chose a baked potato as our side and the potato was so cold inside it did not melt the butter we put inside it.
The bill was nearly $60 for two dinners, 1 additional side dish, and two beers! Add a tip, and $75 later we left disgusted! The food was good, but WAY TO EXPENSIVE. I must mention that the server/bartender, Jessy S., was excellent. She was bar tending AND waiting on all the tables in the bar by herself. We did mention to her the price increase and the fact that there was now only one side dish instead of two with each entree, and that the additional side dish of corn was $4, and she just frowned and said, "I know, I'm sorry". After all, what could she do?
I doubt that I will ever be back. To bad since I really love the ribs. Way to pricey for...
Read moreSo my search for a decent restaurant in my home state of Maryland continues. This was my first visit to Silver Spring Mining Company and I can say without reservation, that I'll keep going next time.
The decor is nice enough. It's a rustic setting reminiscent of an old mining house, true to its name. The Country music is nice, mellow and soft.
There's a bar side with televisions and a dining side, without TVs. Parking seems adequate for a crowd of about one hundred.
It was not busy when I visited at about eight thirty Sunday night. The three or four parties that were seated when I came in were on the way out so I was all alone on the dining side. There may have been two or three people on the bar side.
The seat and table that I was lead to were dirty. Someone did come out promptly to clean them up.
I ordered the French Onion soup, the Crab Imperial and a Bison Burger and Rice Pudding to go.
The soup spoon was dirty and the soup was barely hot. It had a decent flavor but I would rather see the steam spewing up from the bowl.
The Imperial was piping hot. The rice and broccoli were okay. The fries that came with the burger were warm and not fresh, like they had been warmed up. The pudding came in a styrofoam container that was inside of a crust that was in a plastic container. Am I supposed to dump the pudding in to that crust after the container has been sitting inside of it?
The waiter, Mister No Affect, was unapologetic about the service. Get me out of here.
There are some very good to excellent restaurants in Maryland, it is a short list. This place is absolutely not on it. But to be fair, it is a bar/restaurant, so maybe drinks are...
Read moreTERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE Stopped in for late lunch today. Ordered the special, soft crab sandwich for 17.99. (might have been 14.99) I am SO sorry I did not take a picture of this teeny tiny baby soft crab. I kid you not this thing from point to point was the length of my thumb!!!! Is that even legal? I told my waitress that this was unacceptable (she was very apologetic) She asked if I wanted to send it back I said of course, and if they wanted to add a second crab on there that would be ok. She comes back and tells me she was told that”yeah well that’s the size we got in” and they would not add a second crab. She obviously was embarrassed to relay that. Asked did I want something else, at this point my mom was halfway thru her meal and I wasn’t going to make her wait for my “something else” I was certain the manager would come out and talk to me. Nope! When she brought the bill I asked her if her manager was aware of what happened, she said yes, and that she had suggested he come talk to me, to which he replied “no”. REALLY? You couldn’t have taken 5 minutes to come acknowledge my complaint???? Way to promote customer relations. And what chef in their right mind would have accepted a delivery of soft shell crabs that looked like that??? I am in the business....People like you make us all...
