I had heard an ad on WCBM radio for the Rolling Grill. I read the reviews and decided to give them a try. Love my pit beef!! I make it a point to try anyplace serving pit beef within reasonable driving distance. This place is 20 minutes from my work. I ordered on line and chose a pick up time that would allow me to arive at the moment my order was complete. That worked out great too. Pulled in the parking lot as they texted me my order was ready. I ordered the burnt end chili along with a medium pit beef and fresh cut fries. I started snacking on the fries on my way back to work. They are average and just like all the others around that serve these fries. I opened the sandwich and took a bite. ICE COLD!!! Like it was just taken out of the refrigerator cold!!! The beef was tender although it lacked any char that would make this a real "pit beef" sandwich. The meat was just not on point and as I said, ice cold. I put that aside and tried the burnt end chili. The picture on the web site looked amazing!! Big chunks of chared beef in a thick, dark chili!! There was NO BEEF!!! Hahahaha!!! Not one chunk of beef in the entire serving!!! Kept digging through for a chunk and all I came up with was big chunks of tomato and peppers. I swear, I think someone must have forgoten to add the meat or something. It was literally bare of beef. It's a shame too. The chili itself had a fantastic flavor and consistancy to it. The cornbread was OK. Very much on the sweet and fluffy side. Crumbled up quite a bit. I was hoping for a saltier, less sweet, dry cornbread. This was more like a desert cake. I give them 2 stars for the spice and taste of the "vegan" chili. I won't be back. For a $25 lunch, there are better pit beef places within minutes...
Read moreI wanted to love this place, but I just like it.
It was an enjoyable meal, but overpriced. The meat was cooked well, but lacked the smokiness of a well-flavored pit meat. Our order was as follows a three meat sandwich and pit beef cheesesteak with side orders of fries and mac-n-cheese.
The three meat sandwich was loaded with pit turkey, pit beef, and pit corned beef. Yeah it was cooked well, but the flavors can only be described as high quality deli meat.
The pit beef cheesesteak, had a good amount of pit beef. The flavor of the pit beef was masked by the mount of sauteed peppers (huge strips) and onions. As for the melted provolone...if you're going to deem something a cheese steak it should have a generous amount of cheese. It seemed to be missing the cheese goodness I had hoped for. The tiger sauce was delicious! I didn't know I would be such a fan. The sub roll was just okay. It did not stand up well to the juiciness of the meat and fixings.
The fries, yum. Who doesn't enjoy a well fried boardwalk-style hand cut fries in Maryland? Oh and the portion size was excellent. I dipped them in the BBQ sauce, which I assume is house-made, but they only have one type. The mac-n-cheese was cheesy and delicious. I'd pair a sandwich with that mac any day.
The staff was super friendly. I was a walk-in customer and the service was very quick! This pit beef place will probably a place I stop by when it is convenient, but not so sure I would be headed...
Read moreWe've now eaten at The Rolling Grill 3 times. This is one of those local places that locals love. But in our experience it is just ok. We've tried several dishes, and they have mostly been a miss...steak tacos (small and lackluster), wings (chewy), sliders (subpar rolls, no sauce offered or toppings), fries (good once but others in the area are better), chef salad (enjoyed the pit turkey and overall a large salad), pulled pork (lackluster), kid's chicken tenders (good but that's just fried food), kid's grilled cheese (came served as a panini on sourdough which was not indicated on the menu), and rolling Rachel (again a panini, didn't really let the turkey shine), italian sausage (lackluster) milkshake (below average). Our last meal there was over $100 for 6 people so not really a good value for the money for just ok food. We had some leftovers but no one wanted to eat them. It's almost like they don't know how to do food pairings to make an overall dish. The smoked meats seemed pretty good. They do have some specials so worth looking into those. And the service has...
