State Street Deli — Restaurant in Mason City

STOP WHAT YOUR DOING! DEFINATLY GO HERE!!

I moved to Mason City 3 months ago from Quincy Illinois, about 4.5 hours away for my job. One day i was craving a deli sandwich, sometimes you just have them cravings. I googled Sandwiches near me and i choose to try State Street Deli.

I was greeted with a VERY POLITE AND AMAZING STAFF, you can tell they all enjoy working together and they are a true team! My order taker was the nicest lady in the world and helped me decide between two sandwiches. And oh boy was i in for a treat!

It gets better! This is now my secret lunch place I take anyone that comes into town to visit! Casually taking them to lunch but little do they know whats about to rock their taste buds. The moment that sandwich hit her tounge, her eyes popped right out of here head with the same feeling of bliss i had my first bite. With a mighty "WOW THATS AMAZING!" ALL I COULD DO IS GRIN AND REPLY "RIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHTTTT!!!!"

Love this place. I am working my way through their menu and ten different sandwiches in I've yet to try something I don't like. Their signature 'creations' menu is unparalleled. On a cold rainy day, nothing hits the spot like a Michigan Ave. The peppered toasted sourdough is a revelation. But definitely try all the creations and especially the temporary specials (the holiday sandwich aka 'xmas n July' makes Monte Cristos weep with envy at the expense of being a lil messy.) Speaking of messy, the chicken salad has a hard time staying in the bread but I'll forgive them for it because they season it with an insane amount of dill, which is the correct application for that spice.

Other points. Owners are always nice to me and I've never seen them not working behind the counter with staff. Same staff, not a lot of turnover as far as I can tell. I've always felt full and satisfied after eating here. Fresh vegetables as far as I can tell, at least in season. Convenient...

There is nothing on this planet like biting into a Michigan Avenue sandwich after getting off a long day at work and you’re hungry as all getout. My husband likes the hot beef sandwich with cheddar on it. They also have an incredible bacon egg and cheese bagel, and i like to get it with the raspberry Chipotle mayo on it. They’re super friendly and I’m such a regular there that some of the staff, including one of the owners, knows my order. As far as sandwich quality, they’re super generous with the meat and cheese portions on the sandwich and they use really nice meat. Tastes incredible. The raspberry Chipotle Mayo is much more savory than sweet, but does have a sweet element to it. They’ll even sell their meat and cheese (but not the bacon, i asked)...
