The Quarry Restaurant & Tapas bar — Restaurant in Mason City

What a disappointment to write this review, but we had absolutely HORRIBLE service, and I wouldn't know about the food since 90 minutes after ordering it still hadn't been served and we left. We were in town for an event, which we are a few times a year, and after I mentioned this awful experience to a few others they mentioned they've found REALLY slow service to be typical of the Quarry. This restaurant would fail miserably if they were in a bigger city with more options, and sadly we won't be back.

We had a table of six, seated at 5:20. Totally excited to have a great meal sitting outside on the patio. We had a few questions about the gluten free options which our server was completely uneducated about but after several trips back to the kitchen we finally got answers and ordered at 5:50. BUT, we waited & waited. Our food still wasn't delivered after 90 minutes, at 7:20 (!). We didn't have anything special, and certainly nothing requiring more than normal prep time. We had tried to flag down a server several times but were ignored. No offer to refresh drinks or for an appetizer, no apology or explanation. Everyone was starving, including our kids, so I went in to ask to speak to the owner but they evidently couldn't be bothered as I waited five minutes and still no response. We left. The Thai restaurant a few blocks over served us right away and was DELICIOUS, with friendly, knowledgeable servers.

The ONLY positive quality about this restaurant is its location on the a pedestrian street off the plaza. Such a disappointment.

Me and my girlfriend came in the day before Valentine’s Day around 7pm, place was decently full but we got served pretty quick. Our waitress was very nice, she was a younger brunette women forgive me for not getting her name but she gave us our food and upon giving me the bill had noticed I was taking a little long, before we went in I had forgot my wallet so I needed to use Apple Pay for the meal and was in the process of transferring my account money. She had asked me if I needed help with anything and I had mentioned I just was waiting a second to transfer some money into my other bank account to pay. She smiled and asked me how much I had on my card to pay as of right now (it was about 42$ in which the meal cost 47$) I told her and she again smiled and said no problem before she then changed the price of the meal to 42$ so I could pay. She as well crossed out the tip part before I even got the chance. She deserves a raise and was an amazing waitress, again I don’t remember her name but she has dark hair and younger, served me at 7pm on the 13th of February. Quarry Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience, and I must highlight the exceptional service provided by Jennifer, the bartender on Saturdays. From the moment we arrived, her warm and welcoming demeanor set the tone for a fantastic evening.

Jennifer’s expertise shone through as she guided us through the menu. Her recommendations for the steak were spot on—she suggested the filletcooked to perfection, and it truly was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly as requested, it was a culinary masterpiece.

Not only did she have an impressive knowledge of the food, but her cocktail suggestions complemented the meal beautifully. Each drink was crafted with care, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Throughout the evening, Jennifer’s attentive service ensured that we never wanted for anything. She checked in regularly, making sure our glasses were full and that we were satisfied with our meal, all while maintaining a friendly and engaging conversation.
