I had my wedding reception here in July 2022. We rented the Streetscape and our guests loved it and everyone kept telling us how much they loved the unique space. I currently live in the Twin Cities and decided to have wedding in my hometown of Mason City. Wedding venues in the Cities and surrounding metro are anywhere from 10-30k but MMS is a fraction of that. My friends couldn't believe how reasonably priced and gorgeous the space was.
I also want to thank Nick Whitehurst. We planned our wedding in a little over 6 months & he made everything a breeze and stress-free. Several friends who are getting married soon have many complaints about their wedding venues being stingy, not allowing any plastic or drinks in cans/bottles, they don't allow you to bring any snacks in to give to guests during happy hour, they charge for every little thing, and they force you to work with their approved (overpriced) vendors. We didn't deal with any of that at MMS. We had HyVee for catering and Rich's DJ service--both have done hundreds of weddings at MMS so they knew the space well & we didn't need a wedding planner to coordinate anything with them. I can't thank MMS & Nick enough for the experience and the...
Read morePlease visit here!!! I had NO idea who the Music Man was and most people are right - It's an old movie, a lot of people wont. I went with an open mind while visiting Mason City and I'm so glad I did. The staff are so incredibly kind and enthusiastic. One of the staff gave me a personal tour of each room and the museum... THEY ARE VOLUNTEERS! Doing this for free! He was excited to share his own experience with how the music man affected him and it was touching. The inside of the museum is beautiful and each room is well taken care of. They even have icecream available for those that want it for a fee. There is also Meredith Wilsons boyhood house next door which is included in the admission and they will give a personal tour of that as well. I was the ONLY person that visited them that day! I felt terrible for them. To have staff so excited to share and show and no one to show to. If you visit I also recommend checking out Meredith Wilson graveyard not too far away as well. PS: YES you bet I watched the movie...
Read moreNOTE: parking is across the street in the municipal lot, which is free. We were looking to stretch our legs and since we’re fans of the Music Man movie, we decided to stop off here. Honestly we were blown away. This place is Disney level quality. The inside is designed just like River City, complete with pool hall and gazebo, and the museum is full of amazing items like instruments and costumes used in the movie. There’s an informative video that talks about the making of the movie as well as an opportunity to look through Wilson’s historic home. Overall this place is incredible and the town should be VERY proud to have this in their backyard. The tour guides are also so lovely and friendly... I wanted to give ours a hug but thought that...
