Maui's newest and sadly only second ramen shop opened on 5.31.23 in Puunene SC. The company is now officially a chain with this second location (other is on Oahu). ATMOSPHERE: Quarters are tight so you shouldn't try to bring in a party larger than 4 and leave your strollers in the car. No counter seating, only low tops. A semi-loud overhead radio station in turn made patrons speak even louder. RESERVATIONS: None taken. PARKING: Plenty of free parking. MENU: Combo sets, seafood & poultry dishes, noodles, ramen & udon, kid's menu. FOOD: Mini Pork Fried Rice - $10.50 One of the hallmarks of ramen shops is their fried rice. They usually have a distinctive yet subtle "grill-flavor" which I attribute to a well-seasoned pan. I did get a little of that here, so I'm positive as time goes on it'll get better. Peas, green onion & kamaboko also reside within. Karaage Chicken - $8.45 (5 pcs.) Light and airy batter, crispy and perfectly cooked, this was extremely good. A katsu sauce heavy on ketchup flavor accompanied, but I prefer mine drizzled with shoyu. Shrimp Tempura - $8.75 (4 pcs.) Whomever the cook is, props to them as this was another deep-fried winner. I'm pretty sure they were of the frozen variety but sure didn't taste like it. Gyoza - $6.95 (5 pcs.) Sadly these were out, whop wah wahhh... (sad sound effects) *Yay, they were available on our second visit. The wrappers were thinner than the norm (a plus in my book), averagely-stuffed with pork and had a nice char to the bottoms. Charsiu Shoyu Ramen - $15.95 Shoyu broth is my favorite. The posted pics didn't wow me, but I still had to try it first. It had an odd flavor & color; savory, a bit creamy but flat overall. The non-eggy, al dente noodles were of the thin, yellow variety like they use in chow mein or crispy noodle dishes and killed it for me. I'd prefer bean sprouts over the included bok choy, though the charsiu slices were really good; soft, a bit fatty and moist. Black Garlic Udon - $15.95 I had a sip of my spouse's bowl and damn, it was good! Bold flavors of savory & creamy. Definitely getting this next time. He did mention the egg was hard boiled vs. medium gooey. *Fast forward a few days and we were back. I ordered this exact same dish. Hmm, the broth was a lot weaker than my spouse's, a sign of inconsistency. While I'm not a fan of udon noodles in general, they simply did not marry well to the broth. Pass. SERVICE: We walked in at 1pm on a Monday to a packed house but got seated immediately. Water was dropped off soon after with the server a few ticks later. The food came out lightning quick but most importantly everything was hot and fresh. There was no follow up but it wouldn't be hard to flag down a worker as they're constantly buzzing by. TIP: Some reviewers mentioned an automatic 15% service charge but we weren't charged that. Perhaps they had a large party? OVERALL: Less than stellar ramen but favorable everything else. Welcome to Maui, you're going to stay constantly busy.

I wasn’t in there this time I DoorDashed. The last time I went there, the food was awesome and I enjoyed myself. I decided to DoorDash because I trusted it would be good as well. It wasn’t. I just want you to look at the side of rice and curry I was given and tell me if that looks good to you, or if it was fair for me to pay for my meal and receive this (mind you DoorDash is always more expensive). ONE piece of carrot, ONE piece of potato. Thats really sad. I called them and asked if this was normal, and the lady on the phone told me yes. Should’ve gotten her name but she was working 8:30p on July 10th. If this is normal, I guess it’s normally not a good choice to DoorDash from you guys. Also the rice is hard. And the potato patties were not crispy. The outer layer was soggy and gave me a gross texture. If you were to DoorDash from Tajima Ramen or Izakaya Genbe in Kihei, they wouldn’t do you dirty like this. Even if you were all the way in Wailuku, it would still arrive looking better than ever.

Look at your receipts first! Automatically charge a 15% service fee for a party of 5. (Who half never got their food because it wasn’t placed by server) We had to flag 3 servers to ask about the status of the rest of the food only to find out almost 20 minutes later the server never put it in. First server laughed and said it was coming after receiving 3 items out of 8, second server 5 minutes later said the same and never even bothered to look. Took a third time to ask another server to figure out the missing items were just placed. We gave up and just asked for check of what we did receive. Couple of us never got out food. But They didn’t forget to charge a service fee and everyone yelling thank you on the way out.

Near the airport and open until 9:30, Ramen Bones offered a much better alternative to the Korean BBQ place nearby that is overpriced and lost its liquor license. And ramen is a good way to unwind after a long flight. The black garlic oil ramen was good, but not among the best I've had. Two thick slices of pork could have been a little more tender, but had good flavor. On the plus side, the broth was not too salty, which for me is the sign of a good ramen base. Oh, and a very nice egg thrown in, which is often extra. More plusses than minuses overall. I'm sure I'll return when I'm in the neighborhood.

Everything was delicious 🤤 We went on the second night it opened, and although it was crazy packed/busy, our food came out really fast. Service was good. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Not pictured, but we also had a side order of kimchee, which made for great leftovers as I used it to make some kimchee fried rice. The space itself is small and kinda tight. Largest table size fits 6 from what I could see, but that’s from putting a table for 4 and 2 together. Overall, everything was great. Excited to go back 😊
