I had a disappointing and upsetting visit to this restaurant this time around. 😕😕😕😕
Usually, me and my husband -- we are an interracial gay couple, with me being Black and my husband is white -- eat here all the time and we really enjoy it. However, this time I ate there solo.
The restaurant was rather busy with many white families eating there, with me being the only Black person.
The problem was that after the server brought my food to me, the entire staff went AWOL! Usually, a server will come and check up on us when I'm there with my white husband. But, this time after my food was brought to me, I was then TOTALLY ignored!
The staff was eagerly taking care of its white customers, but totally ignoring MY Black face.
In the time it took me to eat, no one came over to see how I was doing or if I needed anything. When I finished eating, I stacked my dinner dishes and waited for them to bring me my check. I sat there for 20 minutes and nobody came over. I had to ask for my check.
Keep in mind that the staff was dutifully helping the white folks and their families and laughing and joking with them and asking them if they needed anything -- while I continued to be ignored.
Again, when I'm there eating with my white spouse, this behavior NEVER happens!
Is it my imagination that some subtle and benign racism is going on or am I just imagining things?
Just to let you know, the entire restaurant staff is either Mexican or Mexican-American.
So, what do...
Read moreI give this restaurant 5 stars for service and hospitality, and 1 star for food quality. I made a to go order, and it was ready quickly while I waited. the staff was friendly and chatty to pass the time for my wait. The portions were generous, and salsa was amazing. Then came the food. I have eaten better mexican food at taco bell. There was little flavor, and on the platter I ordered, there was no variation of flavor between the different sauces/meats etc. I was disappointed with the entire meal with the salsa for the chips being the exception. I understand that things need to be more bland for the typical American to eat them, but if I am opting for Authentic Mexican food rather than a drive thru at taco belll, I am expecting to get some diverse flavor...
Read moreWe were driving through, looking for a place open late Sunday afternoon when we happened upon El Caminante “The Walker.” Their menu was extensive. I was very pleased that I was able to order from the children’s menu. I never can finish restaurant portions, and was too far from home to box up half. Several authentic dishes were offered on the children’s menu including a chimichanga, which I ordered. I chose chicken over beef or pork. It was definitely made on the spot, and served with rice, queso sauce and a small salad with queso fresco, which I dressed with their delicious homemade salsa. I was surprised at the great portion of tender, pulled chicken in my tiny chimi. Magnifico! I hope to have occasion to pass through...
