If you’re craving truly authentic Cuban flavors in the Rio Grande Valley, look no further than Cubamex in Downtown McAllen. From the moment we walked in, the owner, Rolando, went above and beyond to make us feel more than welcome. His warm hospitality alone is reason enough to visit.
He personally prepared us two batidos—one mango and one mora (blackberry)—and they were absolutely delicious, creamy, and refreshing. We also ordered a Cuban sandwich and it did not disappoint. It was huge (easily feeds two), generously filled with pulled pork, ham, cheese, pickles, mayo, and mustard—pure comfort food!
To top it off, Rolando surprised us with a complimentary sweet treat—casco de guayaba with cream cheese—which was the perfect ending to our meal.
It’s so refreshing to find a genuine Cuban spot run by a passionate small-business owner right here in McAllen. Supporting places like Cubamex not only means enjoying incredible food but also helping the local small-business community thrive. We’ll definitely be back soon to try their media noche sandwich.
