My wife and I went on Sunday and had a great meal. The young man that seated us was quick and helpful. He was not only attentive but he made a point to make us feel welcome and brought us some of the broth from the kitchen as a palate cleanser. He however was quickly replaced by a young lady that had a slight communication issue. Because the menu was so comprehensive and the food so varried, I asked what she suggested. She quickly let me know she did not understand. Then I could tell that she was struggleing and I saw her look to the young man that seated us, lock eyes with him and she silently pleaded for him to come over. It did not work, he quickly shot her a catty look and then shook his head and left the table he was helping to sit. I tried several times to explain and then attempted to order an appetizer to buly more time with the menu. The young lady quicly rebuffed my attempts to purchase an appitizer and told me that they were too small, that I should try the civeche. I gave in quickly and then negotiated with my wife on main course. She got a large fried roll of fish and shrimp ( I say roll - it was graat, not sushi, but it was the size of a roll, so that will work. In addition I gotthe tacos wiht bacon, shrimp an oysters. It was delicious. I would like to know what the house specialty is, Also, they have lunch menu even on Sun, I encourage ordering off the cost consciojus menu because the entres can cost up to 18-20 dollars. If I did over again, ( i will) I would have asked the gentleman that worked the front and sat people what he reccomended or liked best. Usually staff knows what is best and least...
Read moreIt had been at least 5 years since my last visit to La Jaiba and I was craving some good seafood so I looked up some reviews and I was led here by the 4.4 star avg. Maybe I just went on an "off day" but here's my experience: We ordered the stuffed jalapenos and upon their arrival, it looked like I made a great choice. The first one I had was only filled about half way and I thought to myself, "maybe I just got a bad one." After biting into the second one, it was literally hollow as you can see in my pics.... Maybe a name change from "stuffed" jalapenos to "hollow" jalapenos is in order. Anyhow, my waiter went ahead and replaced that jalapeno and it was alright. My mother ordered the Combo #2 (fish/shrimp) and it was alright as well. The tartar sauce on the other hand was horrible. It was so thick and hard to scoop up, almost like it had been left open over night. I don't know, maybe I just like mine creamy and fresh. As for my Marisco soup (fish/shrimp), it was just alright, nothing special. I will definitely NOT be ordering any of those things again. I saw a couple of things on the menu that intrigued me so I will go back and give them another chance. I'll post an update once I get a craving for seafood again. Like I said, maybe I just went on an "off day" because so many people like to eat at...
Read moreCame for anniversary and the service, food, was great and up to par. I really enjoyed my seafood Enchiladas even if I'm not a fish kinda person, but this dish was wow, no fishy taste they are so good you must try them. My husband had the chicharon fish plate that was very good, too. We will return and I highly recommend this place if you have never been here. Their staff is very hospitable and explain the dish. You won't regret it. At least, in my opinion, I'm sure you will have your own great experience here.
Ok, 1st time here and wow, it is amazing. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but I promise you will get your moneys worth. The hostess is very hospitable. Our waitress was super nice and very knowledgeable to the servings and prices and explained what came with what. All dishes ordered were to perfection and super delicious that I would come back again. Our portions were so good that I couldn't finish my plate, nor did my sister couldn't finish her soup de marisco. They give you a consume at the beginning with chips and salsa, so that was a treat. I was very happy here, guys, give it a try, you won't regret it. Had the cilantro pasta with shrimp, large seafood soup, and a fish Po'Boy. Wow. Not bad about $75.00 total. You know seafood is expensive anywhere but was worth the serving and taste. Thank...
