Very rude staff, heard manager is very money hungry and stingy. Pastries are over priced so eat before you get there because they will tell you something if you bring outside food especially when they’re charging $5 for a plain hard rock chocolate chip cookie and $10 for a spinach wrap that has a expiration date from YESTERDAY. I think that’s why they don’t have the menu up anymore on the wall so they can charge differently every transaction. Coffee prices are always changing and I order the same thing every time, they don’t even use the proper lids for the coffee that you order. The bathrooms never have toilet paper or napkins and last time every single one of the stalls were clogged so use the bathroom before you come unless you want to piss yourself. Not to mention how hot it is in here. Literally can’t come in here without breaking a sweat so you can leave the jacket at home. All the seats are torn and uncomfortable. No staff welcomes you in and I’ll be here and study and never see employees cleaning the tables and seats in between which is gross and lazy. The trash cans are overflowing and staff will walk right by and not do a thing about it. Whoever is in charge of this establishment needs to correct all these things, there’s even tables without chairs ??? Am I supposed to sit on top of the table? If you don’t have the chairs for the tables REMOVE THEM, it just makes it more cluttered. I ordered a coffee and usually there’s a paper on it that says what you ordered with your name on it and I’m sure they ran out of paper and again are being too cheap to replace it so they just give you a plain cup with no name on it. It’s so un-personal and just not inviting nor welcoming and coffee tastes different every time, this time it was absolutely HORRIBLE, I didn’t even drink it nor did I bother to request a new one because the manager doesn’t like to waste cups. Also the manager will go around the coffee shop telling everyone to make sure to purchase something which seems very intrusive, can I get a hello first? That’s because I had purchased a overly priced water bottle but put it on the side of my backpack then was told to make sure I bought something, and weirdly felt the need to place the water bottle on the table so he wouldn’t bother me again and could visually see the purchase I made. Stingy and greedy, it’s gross. I would recommend going to a different and NICER coffee shop like solum, semilla, reserva, labyrinth, jitterz, nerve, or common space. All of those coffee places are amazing and have great service and staff, very clean atmosphere and the lighting is way better and it’s not so hot and uncomfortable, you can count on the restrooms not being clogged and not getting over charged, with better quality...
Read moreMoonbeans Coffee is a local urban coffeeshop located in McAllen Texas on 10th and Dove. It provides a place for the millennial and gen-z audience to work, study, meetup, and chat - candidly and comfortably. The vibe is relaxed and reminds one of a time that was simpler and easier. It either transports you to a time that you once experienced in bliss or transports you to a place you didn’t know you were missing.
The coffee is at a premium price. I got a single shot iced black coffee, which makes it easier for me to drink knowing it won’t keep me up since it was past 6pm already. It is a lighter roast that had a softer note compared to the bitterness of some strands. My partner and I coupled that with a banana-nut muffin that kept us satisfied for the evening. The barista gave us the option to have the muffin heated up, which we eagerly accepted.
The first thing you’ll probably notice hearing is the indie garage rock in the background, which sometimes alternates with jazz. You’ll hear artists such as MGMT, the Strokes, and Richard Swift. A recent favorite of mine played was “Song for My Father” by Horace Silver, which was very pleasant for me to hear in the shop. Inside, the acoustics of the high ceiling, which would normally create a jarring, cold sound is masked with the warm music. If you focus, you can hear the buzzing of the kitchen equipment, the murmuring of voices, and the laughter of friends. Outside, the mood is a lot more intimate. The quieter music coupled with more voices outside invites individuals to lean in and talk quieter.
The interior is dark black with hints of wood and red couches. This creates an underground, grunge feeling of a dive bar but with the ambient light of a studying area. If you made it dimmer and served alcohol instead of coffee, I’d believe you if it was like the bars I’ve been to in Austin. Outside, the string lights are a very nice touch, creating a beer garden vibe. It’s homey. It’s hip. It’s sweet.
The couches are a bit stiff, making it easy to focus and not get too comfortable to lull myself to sleep. The makeshift wood tables are littered with marks, drawings, and messages from many. I see chemistry elements, inspiration messages, gospel, romantic hearts, and silly memes. The air is nice and fresh, which makes it easy to stay for long periods of times. Masks are enforced.
You can smell the coffee in the air. It is magnificent. This is the coffeeshop of the valley right now for the millennial and...
Read moreI've been going to moonbeans since they were at their old location and recently i've been going at least once a week. However, I will not be going back after a terrible encounter with the bald manager that I've been lucky enough not to see until now. This guy is constantly harassing customers and employees rather than paying attention to the cockroaches running around his store. The staff is usually kind and helpful, but this guy runs around the store getting after customers. I saw him getting angry at someone for moving the light over a table slightly. Any good owner should realize that if multiple people are moving a light over a desk maybe it's a problem that needs to be addressed by management rather than trying to get angry at customers. I've talked to other friends and those who've went to moonbeans enough times have had an unfortunate encounter with this bald guy and many have said that's the reason why they decide against going to this location. I also saw him shrugging off a customers complaint about the cockroaches and ignoring complaints about nails. He personally came up to me and complained to me about not getting something to eat or drink within 5 minutes of me settling down. I always get a drink and a pastry, but this guy didn't even give me enough time to put my stuff down. I was really embarrassed being called out in front of all the customers that were nearby. Afterwards I complied and went to get a drink, but a little while later he came and got mad at my friend, who had a drink and also suffers from a food allergy, for eating a PBJ sandwich instead of buying a pastry from him. We explained that my friend can't eat other food, but he was still rude and insistent that it be thrown away. This was the last straw and we left the store. I won't be returning to this location and advise others to leave if they walk in and see a bald headed manager running around like the cockroaches running...
