Union Draft House Nolana — Restaurant in McAllen

I’m over 21 and presented a valid, government-issued ID. It’s still vertical (as some IDs remain until renewed), but it’s current and clearly shows my birthdate. The bartender, Jean, told me they have a policy against accepting non-horizontal IDs. While I understand that some places have their own policies, I’ve never encountered that before and it felt overly strict considering the ID is fully valid and legal. Still, I respected the policy and didn’t argue it. I sat at the bar anyway with my mom and ordered waters and a single deep dish pepperoni pizza. While trying to make the best of it, I was watching the TV directly in front of me at the bar. There were plenty of other TVs around, but a manager (possibly named Marco or Martin) still chose to change the exact one I was watching. It felt unnecessary, especially since no one else seemed to be paying attention to that screen. We waited around 45 minutes for a single deep dish pizza, and when it finally came out, it wasn’t even the right one. Jean brought us a thin crust instead, apologized, and said we could keep it while they started the correct order… meaning even more waiting. By that point I was already frustrated. The wait felt ridiculous considering all we ordered was one pizza and two waters. At the end, another manager Zach asked if something was wrong, and I told him what happened. He tried to explain that deep dish pizzas take time, which I get, but that didn’t justify the extra wait caused by an incorrect order. He ended up giving us two free pizza cards, which I appreciated, but honestly the service and organization were so off, I don’t see myself returning. This was my mom’s second visit, and she mentioned that the first time, they forgot to even put her food in, and then burned it once it finally came out. So this wasn’t a one-off situation, it seems like they’re struggling with consistency and communication across the board. A disappointing experience overall, and definitely not the kind of first impression a new business...

First time visiting and unfortunately the last. The very first round of beers we got had lipstick on the glass. We had a large party and thought the waitress Kenya was being attentive until it was time to check out. No tabs were brought out. Instead she verbally told me the total from the screen was $85 so my husband asked what was on the tab to be sure. She called out the order and we paid. We gave her a $100 bill and told her to keep the change as a tip (mind you she never mentioned that tip was included). At the end of the night she tried to have our family pay for “our tab” and stated we only paid $68 and that we told her to keep the change. Which was a complete lie! $68 never came out of her mouth. On top of that, the managers were absolutely no help at all. We should have been persistent about asking for a check but nowadays most restaurants use the handheld devices so I didn’t question it. Very unprofessional and the server was probably just trying to pocket more money. The manager could have handled it differently but instead was very uncooperative even though he’s server was in the wrong. The fact that the server lied to our faces is unbelievable. I would avoid going to this place unless you want to be scammed. Not to mention, I kept trying to call...

I've been there twice once for lunch and once for dinner on a Friday night. I believe it's a much better experience on lunchtime than at night. My Friday evening was very upsetting. It was way to loud to the point where we had to yell you each other just so we could understand. Thankfully the crowd there was for the most part behaving. However, our service was awful. They kept messing up our order and that when we were attended. The waitress were nice but they were clearly overwhelmed by the heavy traffic on Friday night. The owner dude was very nice too and proper gentleman. We just felt they should give us a warning at least before we sat down. I do believe if you show up on a afternoon you can have a better experience. The food and drinks are good but nothing exceptional. My head is still ringing as I type this. I shall not be returning...
