Family owned sit down Italian restaurant with some American/Midwestern twists. I LOVE the specialty pastas. There are a few cajun influenced, several seafood, and others. Among my favorites: The Penne Bleu and the Cardiac Louie. I've also had several of the more conventional Italian dishes and found them exceptional as well. I have never had the pizza, but I have heard good things. Really I cant recall having ever been disappointed by any menu item. Appetizer sampler consists only of bread, but it's such good bread.
When I used to go to the Monona location at least once a month, the wait staff knew me by name and remember which table I liked, what I typically ordered, etc.
This was our first time at the McFarland location. It's smaller and a bit more cramped, but also more recently renovated (although the Monona location is currently under renovation). It has different ownership, but they brought most of the recipes with them (they wouldnt say which ones they didnt and I couldnt figure it out). They, along with the rest of the staff, were friendly. Everything we tried as good and what we were expecting based on the other location.
There's usually a wait for a table unless you come right when they open or right before close.
It's not super formal or upscale, there is a bar adjacent to the dining room where sporting events are watched with enthusiasm. It's pricier than, say, Olive Garden (but not by much and well worth it). They're not open for lunch. And if you come during a "special" (e.g. Friday Night Fish Fry, remember I said there were some Midwestern twists) they dont always serve the regular menu.
I would pick Angelo's over any other sit down Italian place in the area. I hope...
Read moreMy husband and I went here on a random date. He sent me four different links of restaurants to try, and this one struck me instantly. It already had great reviews, so that was a plus. I'm glad I picked it.
The restaurant itself is elegant looking, which made for a nice atmosphere overall. The food was delicious, and our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly.
My husband and I ordered the Bruschetta as our appetizer (as we usually do when the option is available), and it was extremely tasty at a very decent price! You give you complimentary bread and butter as well, which is always a bonus.
We ordered pastas for our main meals. My husband ordered the "Baked Mostaccioli" and I ordered the "Chicken Pesto Pasta". Both were wonderfully prepped. All pastas come with your choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup, which had the perfect amount of flavor, in my opinion. I'm not sure if this is something they always do, but when we received our bill, the waitress had two hershey kisses placed with our bill. A cute little treat.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. We will be going back again for our anniversary. It's a wonderful restaurant with great service,...
Read moreLoud, cold and unremarkable, expensive food. We went on a Wednesday and were sat next to a loud group of 8. When we asked to sit somewhere less noisy we were told there wasn't anywhere else, that it wouldn't be noisy. There were other open tables, but it is a very small room, so apparently, it is always noisy? It was cold! The tables were even cold. I had to put my down coat on my lap and legs to keep warm. The food was served nice and hot. My husband and I split the $18.99 special of Key Lime Salmon. It was ok, but not anything different than I would make at home, and no real taste of lime at all. It was served with wild rice, a little sauce and sliced steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. We thought the price was too high compared to what one would get in Madison. My aunt got the "lighter" chicken breast salad for $10.99. It was too large for her to eat, she took 2/3 of it home. Nothing remarkable here either. The price was high for a chicken breast cut into 4 pieces and laid on top of lettuce with maybe an egg or a couple other veggies. We...
