My dad and I were on a motorcycle ride heading to Duluth. Was early morning and we were hungry. We didn't know if we were going to stay at first but the lady walked up to us warm and friendly and seated us. The atmosphere was old hometown from days of old. The hot cup of coffee was just what we needed as our morning on the bike was a brisk one. We ordered our food and when we received it it was definitely hot and fresh. ( I took a bite too quick and did the whole open mouth hot hot hot bit) Dad had millies veggie stuffed hashbrowns and I had the country skillet and we both had the cook's homemade sweet rye bread. The portions were large for the price and oh my goodness it was delicious. The bread just had a slightly sweet taste to it and the melted butter was spread perfectly across the top. You ever get overly excited about food? Yeah that was the both of us. Kids at Christmas if you will. Lol. We stuffed ourselves to the point of a much needed nap would soon follow in the near future. ( I actually dozed off on the back of the bike about an hour later) I loved the atmosphere, the hustle and bustle of the breakfast crowd in a small town Cafe and the breakfast was just absolutely perfect. Cannot express just how wonderful it all was. I regret not being able to eat that last slice of sweet rye bread but I just couldn't push myself to do it. 10/10 would definitely make the trip again if I ever get the opportunity. (I live in iowa) I saved the location in my maps for...

This cafe is an absolute GEM. When passing through a small town, let’s just say my expectations for finding something delicious are rather low, but this place has something very special to offer! Ordered a veggie omelette, an egg sandwich, and impulsively saw (and thus had to have) a cinnamon roll as large as your head! All was delicious and fresh and just utterly unexpected. The veggies were hearty and cooked nicely, folded into fluffy eggs; the cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting was not overly sweet but definitely decadent. My absolutely favorite part though was the bread/toast. OH MY GOODNESS. Fresh, thickly cut bread aside the eggs was just, wow, so amazing. Makes me want to try making fresh bread myself but I imagine a copycat recipe wouldn’t do theirs justice. I should also mention each plate came with a small serving of bread pudding with fresh whipped cream which was just divine. We loved the food here and if we’re ever passing within a 2 hour radius, would definitely...

👂🏽 Listen up everyone because I NEVER write reviews (I know it’s important and I’ll do better). I was traveling for work and desperately needed caffeine. I googled some coffee shops and barely out of my way was the School House Cafe. I added it as a stop and little did I know it would be the best stop ever. I ordered an iced coffee with the temp being 0 degrees out. The woman called me crazy in the most endearing manner and suggested I try the caramel latte bomb. I agreed after stating that we live in Minnesota and an iced coffee is perfectly acceptable too. I then enjoyed the homemade caramel latte bomb and I was so pleased. Thank you to the School House Scoop for great service and an amazing treat. I am saddened that it is 200 miles away from my home base and now my standards are high. I’ll see...

5 Stars – A Hidden Gem in McGregor! If you're cruising through McGregor, MN, make sure to stop by the School House Cafe. This charming spot, housed in a quaint schoolhouse replica, offers a delightful experience from start to finish. The menu is packed with hearty breakfast and lunch options, all made from scratch. Favorites include the Garden Scrambler, Dad’s Turn to Cook with a Pancake, and the Dagwood Sandwich. And don't miss their legendary caramel rolls—one is enough to share between two people! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff that make you feel right at home. Whether you're dining in or grabbing a coffee to go, the School House Cafe is a must-visit destination. Highly recommended!

This place is my favorite of all time!! The main cook makes the best chicken salad sandwich. I could eat a whole loaf of that sweet rye bread. They are struggling with young staff like most people but any inconveniences is totally worth it!!! You always get large portions here! Stopping here is a must for me whenever I am driving through even if it isn't a meal time.
