Fireside Inn — Restaurant in Tamarack

From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted by friendly staff. We were promptly seated by the wood burning fireplace. It was such a a relaxed and beautiful place. An added touch was the real candle burning on each table. Every detail of this restaurant gives a warm inviting Northwoods feel. From the fireplace to the animal mounts give an at home feel. Now let's talk about the service. As mentioned they greet you with a smile that makes you feel like they are you friend. We didn't wait long till or order was taken. While we waited she brought a Minnie loaf of delicious bread. I enjoyed the salad bar. While it didn't have many choices it was great. Nice crisp lettue and the dressing were excellent. I had the special which that night was fish. It is Alaskan cod. I had the deep fried but is available broiled. And yes is is all you can eat. I was very happy with the fish. Hello, My husband and a few close friends came to the Fireside this past Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. We waited for over an hour for our food and the waitress never said she was sorry. Instead she kept blaming the kitchen without taking any ownership. When the food did arrive, my meal was not part of the delivery. I waited another 10 minutes and finally told her to please just forget it. She then asked me if I had had the salad bar and if so, she would need to charge me for that. We asked to see the manager and she came back and said they would not charge me after all. We have been coming to McGregor for over 30 years to visit friends and have eaten at Fireside many times. However, this experience was so bad, that we will not be back. I did not get the waitress's name, but she could have really diffused the slow service if...

Without a doubt the best place to eat in town. We came off the SOO line for a few nights, we were hungry & exhausted from the sand pits. It was a Wednesday night supper rush and they were packed. They had 2 of the hardest, fastest, most accurate server's we've ever seen. The kitchen was kicking out food cooked spot on right down to the filet mignon. The only negative was a table of loud mouth assholes in the dining room with us (not even drinking) behaving worse than our 10 year old and younger children but that's hardly the the proprietors fault.

Bottom line great food, 2 amazing hard working servers... We will always stop in there coming off the trail...
