Be careful when ordering online!
I thought I was placing an order for delivery through their website but I guess not... I entered my delivery address and even added a tip.
Then I received a text message that read: We got your order!!! your order will be ready (3/12/2021 5:30 PM) - Green Peapod Thai Restaurant.
So I felt pretty confident that I ordered delivery. The food didn't come at 5:30. Since it was a Friday, I gave them another 20 minutes before I called. When I called to check the status of my order, they took my name to check. They came back on the phone and said that my order had left a while ago with their driver. So I waited some more. Then, I received a call from the restaurant at 6:18pm saying that my order had been waiting at the restaurant for pickup. I explained that I had already double checked that the order was for delivery and that it was on the way. I asked for my money back as I didn't want to pay for cold food. They insisted it was a pickup order and said their driver was available right now to deliver it. No mention od additional charges.. The assured me that the food was still hot. I reluctantly agreed. The restaurant is 12 minutes from my house but it was another 28 minutes before our food arrived.
The food was not hot, it was barely warm. All the fried food was sweaty. The order didn't not come with an itemized receipt. The driver said the store would call me back with pricing information. I told him I hoped he would receive the tip I applied online.
They called to inform me that they were adding a $5 delivery charge. After the fact! I asked to get me money back again. They said a manager would call me. She did call back later that evening.
I explained my side again. I was confident that I placed a delivery order and did not approve the additional charge. She explain her side and how their restaurant organizes things. She also said that this was not the first time this happened. (There other similar reviews) I asked for $20 back which was 1/3 of the total. She said, "let's meet in the middle, I can give you $3 back and would split the delivery charge with me." I again said that I did not approve the additional charge. She said she had to charge me since the driver delivered. I double checked that driver would receive the tip. I suggested they contact their texting service to clarify their wording so that other people don't go through this drama.
After 20 minutes on the phone, they said all they would do is give me $3 back and that there are plenty of other restaurants that could be make me happy.
Well then... I guess that is that... I will not be ordering from them again! Sad, because I bet their food would be good if it was fresh.
Update: they never...
Read moreI’ve enjoyed the food at Green Pea Pod in the past, especially the beef and broccoli, but my recent experience was enough to make me never want to return.
Knowing Green Pea Pod is notorious for long wait times, I ordered ahead to avoid delays—especially because the person I was dining with is diabetic. We planned ahead to avoid a blood sugar issue and spent over $50 plus tip which would be comparable to what we would spend if we just dined in.
Upon arrival, we were shocked to be told that online orders are not allowed to be eaten at the restaurant—inside or outside. The restaurant was far from full, so the excuse didn’t hold up. After expressing strong concerns to the owner, we were told they’d make an “exception” only if we purchased drinks. Then, we were asked to return the food so they could re-plate it—since eating from to-go containers apparently wasn’t allowed. This caused a further 5–10 minute delay, which is completely unacceptable considering we were trying to prevent a medical issue.
To top it off, staff were rude, making snide comments under their breath and giving us judgmental looks like we were somehow stealing from them. We ended up asking for to-go boxes anyway, making the re-plating requirement feel even more pointless.
It’s unfortunate that a place with good food treats its paying customers this way. I won’t support Green Pea Pod again, and ask others in the McHenry area if this is the type of service you...
Read moreNormally I don't write reviews but I felt compelled to after the great service I received yesterday. I called right when they opened at 11am and put in a large order since I had family coming to town. I asked if it was possible for everything to be ready by 11:35/11:40 at the latest, since my family would be at my house by 12. The nice lady said it will take 30 mins, and sure enough when my husband came to pick it up, it was ready to go as promised! My family kept raving about how great the food was from the Shrimp Basil Fried Rice (outstanding) to the Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Pad See Ew(yummy,) Chicken Pad Kee Mao, the Chicken Red Curry, and pot stickers. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and most importantly delicious! I'm so impressed with this gem especially since I'm so used to having to go to the city to get some quality Thai food. Also, I wanted to note the spice level was spot on, and I normally like spicy food. If you want extra spice, just ask for it, they were very willing to accommodate. My family and I will definitely come back and be sure to tell all our friends about this place. My husband also commented on how well behaved their dog was when he went to go pick up the food. I love family owned restaurants like these and I will continue to support such a...
