Last year we stopped here a ton. Like any restaurant we mention my son's nut allergy and last year any time we went in, the owners were so sweet and would offer to wash their hands or wipe down a soft serve machine etc. tonight we went in, and the staff seemed totally dumbfounded when I asked if they could wash their hands before making his. We are always aware of a cross contamination situation, especially at ice cream shops, but most around here have trained staff on what to do. The Freeze, Culver's, Cary dairy, dq in Cary, all have a safety protocol. Rita's doesn't and staff didn't know what to do. But I did ask if they could just wash their hands and she did, so thank you for that. We have enjoyed Rita's many times but will need to put this on a no go spot for safety reasons. We are not the type to force a restaurant to cater to an allergy issue, but rather just put it on the danger zone list and avoid. Our items were good. The custard never tastes cold. It's very fluffy and good but oddly not cold. Hard to explain. The ice is great. Plenty cold too. Almost $8 for what's essentially a blizzard is wild though. For the 4 of us we spent $30ish dollars. Have a good...
Read moreI had such an excellent experience here not only during our trip but with the customer service I received by Shelley prior. I wanted to plan a special outing for my mom to get chocolate Italian ice, and after seeing that Rita's McHenry was opening soon, I reached out to see if they'd sell chocolate. Shelley got back to me right away and throughout the few weeks until they opened she was in touch to let me know when opening day was and they'd have chocolate ready for us! Unfortunately, it can sometimes be hard to find good customer service these days so it was appreciated. Seeing my mom's face light up like a kid when she took the first spoonful was priceless!
The inside is a little small but they do have tables outside. There were some dog water bowls outside so seems like they're dog friendly for the patio. They also sell quarts so we got some to go as well. They had custard along with a bunch of ways to order combos of both, but we just stuck with regular ice so not sure how that tastes. I would definitely return for the delicious ice and also the...
