Original ChopShop — Restaurant in McKinney

I'm updating my review from a couple years ago. For the past few months I've got my usual tuna sandwich and the quality seems to have gone down I've stayed away because of this but went back today to get the new honey chicken bowls for my son and I. While they were making it, the girl behind the counter was making a smoothie for somebody. She did not have any plastic gloves on but peeled bananas and held the peeled banana with her bare hands to put it in the blender. When she opened up the blended drink, some of the smoothie dripped out. She wiped it with her finger off the side of the blender, licked it, grabbed another banana, peeled it again with her bare hand and finger she just licked, put the next banana in. I received my food from another young lady who handed it to me and she did have plastic gloves on. The honey chicken bowl was tasty but the chicken pieces were very few it was more like a big bowl of salad with a little bit of hummus and just a few sprinkles of chicken. The bowl was $15 and it was more of a huge salad. I do not think I will be going back this time. It seems the quality and quantity has gone down as well as the customer service from two or three years ago. The music was so loud it would have been tough to sit and hold a conversation for dine in. Visited here to grab something quickly for a late lunch and was happy to see good, healthy options. I ordered the sweet soy sesame steak bowl with brown rice, was fair enough and I’d recommend. The service was a bit slow, which I’ve also noticed in a few other reviews. And while I was lucky to have had a friendly employee helping me out, some behind the counter definitely give off a “don’t approach me” vibe and attitude. I’m rating this as middle-above average because what I noticed with the service people I’m on the fence on. The area to order is also a horrible mess with no guidance or direction for where to go (especially on a visit like mine when a herd of people are aimlessly standing around in front of the counters, with no sense of direction for a line which is also crammed up against tables for eating). I would try again, personally, to form a more solid opinion, but for now: food acceptable, service experience...

First purchase, ordered to-go.

Husband loved his American Chop made with fresh ingredients. I also enjoyed my Red Chili Shrimp Bowl, sauce was delicious. Perfect portion for us.

Fast service, friendly staff. Would definitely go back.

Green Curry Tofu Bowl with Forbidden Rice was healthy and yummy.

American Chop with add-ons became husband's new favorite.

Food and service were as good as expected if not beyond.

Updates in 2025:

This location had been our favorite until recently. Quality of cooking seemed to have gone downhill. In my Thai Coconut Bowl today, broccoli was yellowish and the "roasted carrots" turned out to be just shredded carrots. There were also a few very dried-out shrimp mixed in with the good ones.

Hopefully these were occasional mishaps. We liked ChopShop so much that we even bought a good amount of gift cards.🤞
