Went on Monday night (Labor Day) with my husband. As we entered the hostess greeted us and explained to us that they were very short staffed in the kitchen and had several other orders in front of us, that it would take about 30 mins to get our food… As hungry as I was and wanted to eat ASAP, we decided to stay and try it for the first time. We were served by Mary, the manager. I have to say, I would give that lady 5 stars, because she was running up and down that restaurant doing everything! There were other two waitresses with her but you could see her doing mostly everything. Taking online orders and packing them, taking tables orders and serving them, taking take out orders of people walking in, doing drinks, etc. She first brought us water and then some chips and salsa and as soon as she came to us she apologized because it was going to take about 30 mins in the kitchen and explained the situation they were having. We told her not to worry, that it was ok and that we are restaurant owners also and completely understand the situation, to not worry. She was very nice, she came to check on us several times and even talked with us for a bit. We were surprised by the food on how big the portions are and I liked that it was a cream of black bean and white rice instead of the typical red beans and yellow rice. I ordered the lovers taco, it was good and different with the fried plantain and I love plantains so it was a great surprise and the coconut chicken taco, that one was good, but I do have to say that the shredded chicken was dry, maybe because it was already so late at night and it was there for a while and chicken does tend to dry, but it had good flavor though. Overall everything was good, I did like the food and also appreciated Mary’s attention due that she is also new in this location and still learning a lot about this restaurant and the food, besides taking care of the front of the restaurant on her own. Please be patient, restaurants are suffering a lot right now from...
Read moreFirst visit! To-Go order. Staff greeted me welcomely at the to-go entrance. The menu was very straight forward. I ordered the pork taco, a smoked chicken taco, and chips and Queso. They put everything into a brown paper bag and put the tacos on top of the chips and Queso cup. Regrettably in the short time it took me to make it outside to my car, the bag was soaked with taco juice and made a mess all over my car seat. When I tried to take the tacos out to find out what was leaking, I discovered a wet and gooey pork taco soaked like it had been dipped in juice before being wrapped. I had to run back inside to grab napkins because they did not put any in the bag and I had quite the mess to clean up. I think it was the manager (tall man) who gave me the napkins and when I told him the soaking wet taco leaked through the bag and made a huge mess in my car he did not seem to care and was unapologetic.
If you can get past a very soggy wet flour tortilla and a lot of fat gristle within the meat, the taco flavor is actually quite yummy. The big chunks of fat gristle is a texture killer. The smoked chicken taco was on the other end of the spectrum and was actually quite horrible and desperately needed basic seasoning including salt. The chicken taco was assembled well and not soggy like the pork taco. The queso blanco was however some of the best queso I have ever tasted. I might give it another try but will definitely dine inside next time so that I can send the soggy taco back to the kitchen if it’s presented that way again. They really need to taste their creations daily and work on their quality control in order to gain loyal...
Read moreI can’t tell you enough of how good and genuine this restaurant is. Starting with the atmosphere and the cleanliness of the restaurant – modern and inviting. The seating is decent and the tables are at a good height to torso ratio for us tall guys lol.
The service was genuine and fast. Not only was I sat down by the host, but also, he was very attentive and communicated well with others in order to get our drink orders as fast as possible to our table and asked if we were interested in anything else to start with.
Onto the good part – the food. I had the Chilaquiles and if you are a Chilaquiles lover like I am, you are going to love this place! My brother and I go around many Mexican restaurants and we always try to Chilaquiles and these are by far landing on our top five. The corn tortillas are crispy and thin enough to have presence in taste but not too much to take away from the tomatillo and the well seasoned eggs. The portion was large, but do have in mind that I added two extra eggs to my order making it a total of four.
Prior to tip for coffee, water, excellent service cleanliness of the restaurant, attentiveness of the servers and host and also a great meal with great taste all of this with a warm cup of coffee for $18 is more than justified it’s a steal!
I hope you enjoy the Chilaquiles as...
