Aside from being one, if not the loudest restaurant that I've ever been in, Avenue was a pleasant surprise and our party of six had a great meal there last weekend.
We had a reservation and were promptly seated amidst a bustling restaurant. It wasn't too cramped but our immediate reaction was that the restaurant was incredibly loud. In fact, it was so loud that I could barely hear the people seated on my left and right and could barely converse with anyone else at the table. Yes, I am not exaggerating.
Our waitress took care of our drinks and their craft beer selection was decent, as was their wine and cocktail programs. The place is lively and hip, and the menu does a great job at providing an extensive selection of dishes.
My wife and I split the cabernet-braised short ribs turnovers ($13) which came with some steak sauce and a sprinkle of blue cheese. They were absolutely terrific, flaky and moist. A great start and I then went with their ribeye special which came with a side of blue cheese mashed potatoes ($45).
While pricey, the steak was perfectly cooked and I devoured everything on my plate... well actually I didn't, the portion was too big but boy was it tasty. Right on par with something you'd get at a steakhouse.
Everyone else had a great meal and our party left very happy and full. Even the desserts were good. Their chocolate coconut creme brulee ($9) was spectacular.
All in all this is a fantastic restaurant. It's not cheap but the food is definitely guaranteed to be a hit and the service is attentive and friendly as well. The only real hiccup we had is that there's nothing in the restaurant to dampen the sound and it was a very loud experience for us which ultimately prevented us from having many conversations over our...
Read moreAvenue is the best restaurant around (even comparing with Boston’s best restaurants). Every dish is outstanding – made perfectly with love and care from the chef and owner. Their food is always fresh, they serve the best cuts, and it is prepared at the perfect temperature with amazing presentation.
The drinks are also outstanding – many patrons order their favorite cocktails that are no longer on the menu, but the staff is more than happy to make them and keep the ingredients on hand. Everything is served with care and designed to make the diner’s experience outstanding.
The staff is wonderful – attentive, kind, caring and go above and beyond for every guest. Many patrons are regulars due to these outstanding factors that make this restaurant a truly unique and memorable experience. In fact, so many people love the restaurant it is often busy upon opening.
Reservations are definitely needed, and if you want to sit at the bar I advise coming at 4:30 on the dot, or around 6:30 when the first bar patrons are finishing. The bartenders and staff are there to help you so make sure to communicate how many people are in your party and if you would like to put your name in for bar seats.
This restaurant is my absolute favorite and I highly...
Read moreFood was good, not great with the exception of the mussels (appy) which was terrific and the burrata (appy) which was not so good. Burrata itself was too stiff like it had dried out and there was waaaay too much other stuff that completely overpowered it. The rest of the food was ok; steak special was good and cooked to temp asked, but the mashed potatoes were dense and like much of the other food, had too much stuff in it. This seemed to be the overall theme of the food (too much this, too much that). It was like everything was overwrought with extra ingredients. Just too much. The signature chicken dish was over some kind of stuffing that totally overpowered the chicken itself which was just OK. The scallop/pasta dish was loaded with green and red peppers (sweet) which wasn't mentioned in the description, the fettuccine was broken, and though in the description, there were no peas. Desserts were good, EVOO cake and sorbet were both very good. Chocolate cake was good but heavy. Waiter Dave is a sideshow by himself. Good but a bit overbearing. He also spilled a little bit of almost every drink he served. All-in-all, we would go back again for...
