Finally got to try the "Famous" Johnny's Pies. Went yesterday with my boyfriend who lives in Medford Lakes. We got there about 430ish and ordered To go. We got 3 pies to try. The Margherita Pie, Plan Pie, and Johnny's Sausage Pie. Walking into the place was nice was welcomed right away. We ordered the 3 pies, we knew in advance what we wanted by looking at the menu on Instagram before hand. We were told 45 minutes said ok thats fine we can finally try it so we'll wait. Went and continued to walk around town. We got the call the pies were ready. Walked in to get them, the boxes were steaming and smelling good so getting very excited to try them. We get back to his place and dig in. The Sausage Pie was really good! I don't like mushrooms and they were so small and sliced thin that I didn't even know I was eatting mushrooms. (I would have asked to remove the mushrooms but from other reviews, what's on the menu is on the menu no adding or removing items seemed to be the norm, and I didn't want to ask to remove them and get attacked). Then to bite into the other 2 with red sauce. I understand they make the sauce in house I believe? I ate it and I could tell it was missing something 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔. It donged on me it need more salt to the sauce!!! So there I go grabbing the salt shaker and put SALT yes SALT to the pizza never in my life have I done that before. After adding the salt it was better. ( I dunno about you but when I make my sauce i always test to see if it needs something and usually its more salt whoever made it failed on the tasting part) The crust is well done, and taste good but since the crust is fully cooked eatting the non sauced or cheese part gets tossed because it's too hard to eat and didn't want to chip a tooth. Overall I've had better pizza from other places in medford. I'll admit if your right in downtown and don't want to drive south towards the Lakes were the other pizza joints are then ok make it your go it, but honestly it wasn't something that I have to go back to next week! Side note I had the sausage pizza for lunch the next day and it didn't reheat very well in the microwave. Feel like this type of pizza is a have II fresh and...
Read moreI have eaten at Johnnys Pies on several occasions since they've opened, several times Dine In and several times Carry Out.
Walking in, the place is hustling and bustling like coming off a NYC street, there's a real positive and high energy as you enter.
We're always greeted by the Mangione Family, Ed and Danielle, and their boys working hard to make your experience great!
Little known fact, they also own Grubr, another fabulous spot for 100% Gluten Free food right down the road - local, organic and seasonally changing - you can tell they brought the same commitment to their new venture, Johnny's Pies!
Ed, owner and Executive Chef really focuses on the ingredients and the science behind cooking. His dough is not like anything you're used to in a state saturated with run of the mill pizza places that all taste alike because they use the same ingredients shipped in from Sysco.
Working with local farmers to bring you the best produce, homemade mozzarella and again, I can't mention it enough, the DOUGH! Crispy, light and delicate - its truly one of the highlights that I find myself thinking about later in the week.
Having worked over 20 years in the restaurant industry and working my way up into upscale/fine dining, I really have an appreciation for his execution in the kitchen. The attention to detail in everything that goes into producing such high quality pizza.
It truly is, All About the Pizza!
It's funny, but I see some of these reviews mentioning the price point of a $20 pizza pie and I'm just confused. Go online and look up what the price of pizza is at any of these local spots that use subpar ingredients and that's exactly how much you're paying!!
Papa Johns charges $18 for a sausage pizza.. Johnny's Pies charges $20 for a sausage pizza, what's the issue? Id rather pay $2 more for the quality, to know that someone put their soul into my food. I honestly would expect it to cost more.
And I think that's a pretty good place to wrap this review up at.. check out Johnny's Pies for yourself to check out...
Read moreThe most bizarre experience I’ve ever had trying to order a pizza. I should have known this place was different just in the choices of drinks they offered. But my husband and I stopped in this afternoon to have a pizza. I’ve been wanting to try the place. I saw on the menu it said no 1/2 pizzas, meaning you can’t order a pizza with a half topping. which in its own is nothing I’ve ever seen and we’ve eaten at many pizza places. Once or twice a week we have pizza. We ordered a plain pie andasked our server to just leave the sauce off of half the pie. She said they don’t do half pies so if I wanted no sauce we would have to get a white pizza. At this point after she repeated herself my mind is blown. So we would have to order 2 pizzas if I didn’t want sauce on my half. Now, the menu says no half pies so it is totally the owners call of how he wants to run his business but at the same time they are also telling their customers how they have to eat their food. This is a customer based business and I just couldn’t understand how they would rather lose new customers then to just LEAVE OFF the sauce on half the pizza. So we politely told our server that this was not the place for our business and we walked out. Not one employee asked why we were leaving so soon after we sat and we were the only 2 people sitting at a table. It’s a shame that they’re so stuck on “no half pies” (even though I wasn’t trying to order a half pepperoni / just don’t put sauce on the whole pizza) they’re willing to let it hurt there business. Definitely would not recommend this place solely on customer service. We didn’t even get to...
