I've been coming here a few times a year for 5+ years. I've liked supporting local when possible. After many years, I will not be coming here anymore.
I have come here 3 times in the past ~6 weeks or so. I tend to order a 20oz cold brew with a splash of oat milk. The first of these 3 events I felt like I was overcharged, but let it go. Second time the cold brew price was normal priced and I figured it must have been a new barista the first time that accidentally charged me more. Okay no problem, I don't think I've ever seen the same barista here two weeks in a row, it happens.
The third time, I get the same and it's $6.40 before tip. Okay what. I look up at the board, a 20oz is $4.50. I'm kinda confused, but I'm usually a bit avoidant about causing a scene. I go outside and check Doordash, that is showing the same thing for $3.75. This is odd because Doordash is usually more expensive. I then call and am told it's $5.
Three different prices, two in their own shop, and one at a major online app. I get it, maybe those two are outdated and it's $5. Can someone now please explain to me why oat milk is $1 add? Never mind I ask for a splash for some smoothness. Like literally 0.5oz. I just like a little edge off of the coffee and mild sweetness. That should be a courtesy. They're already making a killing on each cold brew, and the only reason I come here is to support local. I make cold brew at my house for less than $1 for 20oz and I'm not buying beans wholesale. I literally only come here to support local.
Well they can enjoy charging my lactose intolerant butt $1 for the last time. Plant alternative markups are insane to begin with, but to charge $1 for oat milk addon is insane. Then to charge $1 for less than an ounce? Is this oat milk from specially fed goats in the Himalayas?
I may only spend $200 or so a year here, but that's $200 back into my pocket now. I'm supporting...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI give up with this place I gave them a second try. We were there the week of October 1st. Came in at around 2:30 and ordered two avocado toasts and two chai lattes. Mind you I've been emailing the owners every single day attaching pictures and have received zero response. The avocado toast was a complete joke and the only reason we didn't go back is because we were out of time because I would have asked for a refund . All four pieces were toasted way too hard and very thin. It was like eating a hard cracker.I think we received one teaspoon of avocado on each of the avocado toast slices if even that. Our order for two chai lattes and two avocado toast was so expensive. The two thin slices of hard toast with a little teeny bit of avocado smear on them was 7.50 for one order. Also we had to wait almost 15 minutes for the order and we were the only people there, so I don't know if the server was running around looking for any leftover avocado or what.
I would not even be writing this review if the owners had the decency and courtesy to respond to the repeated emails I kept sending them every single day. I just keep reforwarding it with no response. When I called and asked to speak to the owner and manager I was placed on hold and then...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHow can a coffee shop be open for 6+ years and have no idea how to pull an espresso shot? The espresso in the latte I ordered (and in the cortado my boyfriend ordered) were so badly underextracted that they barely tasted like coffee at all. I couldn't even tell you anything about the characteristics of the beans because I couldn't taste them.
The milk was steamed very poorly, too. It was basically a unevenly and barely-foamed liquid.
It seems to me that their appeal is on flavored cutesy drinks. That's fine if that's what you're after. But what a waste of a nice Diedrich roaster.
EDIT: the owners responded to another comment saying the coffee is a light roast, not underextracted. Shame on them for discounting an honest review by making excuses. Light roast coffee, of course, tastes different from dark roast coffee. Anyone who enjoys espresso knows this. If this was a light roast coffee, I'd be able to describe the crisp espresso oils, or maybe its acidity, or a fruity quality. There's none of that here; I may as well have ordered milk with a bit of milk...
