Aldo's is a local favorite, and as a former Memphian I was interested in trying it. It's a nondescript building in the famed Cooper-Young district. The pizza was pretty good, with a great crust and a thick layer of chewy cheese. It's tasty enough, and a filling choice if you're searching for pizza. We ate there on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. The cardinal sin for me is for servers and employees to show indifference to customers. While I'm willing to believe they could have had an off day, it's increasingly the norm to behave as if customer service is a low priority. That was the case today. There was a seemingly long gap between being seated and being served. Plenty of service people, including our waitress, in plain view not giving any urgency to taking care of us once we were given a table. That says to me that either the employees don't care about me or they don't care about their product. There is an automatic 20% gratuity for all dine-in orders, so I don't see a lot of trust on the part of this business for customers to reward good service and good food. I'd love to feel more respected since there are a lot of other choices for dining in this neighborhood. Maybe returning at a different time or with a different crew would result in a more enjoyable experience. Overall it wasn't terrible, it was just meh.

My friend and I dined in and we were blown away by how bad the experience was. I never write bad reviews because I work service industry and understand how some situations go. Our service was horrible and the manager was worse. We ordered the vodka pizza which came with absolutely no sauce and asked for a remake. The server looked at it and told us there was sauce when there clearly wasn’t. We got our remake and it was exactly the same as the first pizza. We asked our server for the check without the pizza on it and he brought the check with the pizza on it saying they could only take off 50%. I asked to speak to the manager and she told me she watched them remake it and was very reluctant to take it off, then we were told by Andrew the server, multiple times, that gratuity would still be added which was fine I was still planning on tipping. I felt like I was being gas lit the whole time when our request was not anything out of bounds. I included a photo of the before and after remakes. We were also charged gratuity on the pizza even after it was taken off. Our gratuity was 50% instead of 20%.

I'd argue this is one of the best pizza places in Memphis when it comes to thin pizza, fresh ingredients, great taste. Personally me and the wife love getting the vodka cheese pizza with meatballs or the cajun chicken. We dang near get it everytime we go. The vodka sauce they make is so damn good. The garlic knot and meatball appetizers are good as well. Always gonna get one or the other when we eat in instead of takeout. The service has always been great here. They are busy sometimes we go, but them taking a little longer to get to you when they are busy is not a bad thing. The pizza is worth the wait. The place isn't too big so if you are wanting to bring a large amount of people at once I dot know if I'd recommend it. However, it has seating inside and on a balcony upstairs. The place is always super clean and the vibe is great. Picture is of the vodka cheese pizza with meatballs.

UPDATED: After calling the restaurant they were more than happy to resolve the issue with a refund and were very kind in doing so! I will definitely still be eating with you guys in the future.

*I am hoping to update this review after I reach out for resolution. I am sad to leave this review. I’ve enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but it’s been almost 2 years since eating here, so this is my current review.

I ordered delivery online. It was an extremely easy process. It was way overpriced. $50 for garlic knots I would have loved to substituted the marinara for vodka sauce but that’s not an option so I paid $4 extra for a side of vodka sauce, and 12” vodka pizza with Italian sausage. $7.50 delivery charge (they use DoorDash to deliver but you can’t order through DoorDash app). I pay for DoorDash membership so that’s unfortunate i had to pay delivery fee. $2 gratuity to the restaurant, and also you must tip the delivery driver, this post isn’t to complain about cost. Everything is expensive right now, with that being said. The guy dropped off my pizza and was friendly.

I went to eat my garlic knots first and the whole plastic container was squished causing the lid to come off the vodka sauce and spill all over the garlic knots. I was eating alone, so while it was annoying it’s not the worst thing. I planned to dip them anyway. The presentation was just bad. I felt required to eat them all so they wouldn’t get soggy 🤪 (didn’t mind that part).

I get full on the garlic knots, so I don’t even open the pizza box. Well I’ve waited a few hours and now I wanted a late night snack. I just went to eat my vodka pie and there’s no vodka sauce. It’s cheese on crust with Italian sausage on top. I’m so sad, I was so looking forward to this pizza tonight and at work tomorrow. Hopefully when I call tomorrow, it won’t be an issue to fix. I tried to get a refund through the app because calling the restaurant is just going to be another to-do tomorrow, and the app says to call the restaurant. Therefore no refunds through app for issues. There’s also no email address I could locate on the...

A group of friends and I came here because we had heard amazing things about it, so we were excited! When we got there and saw the sign that says “for your convenience 20% tip added to each bill” several commented on it saying that we expected service worth that tip amount. Unfortunately it started off poorly as we sat and waited probably 15 minutes before ever getting our drink orders taken. From then on, every time we saw our waitress, it was like a 20 minute timer was set and she couldn’t come back to our table until it went off. We tried to maintain a positive attitude but at one point had to get up ourselves after all our ice had melted or was eaten because we were so thirsty and couldn’t find our waitress anywhere. We felt bad but had to ask other waiters to fill our drinks or get us condiments. When we finally got to place our order for food, one of our friends ordered a sandwich but was told they didn’t have it! No problem.. he tried to search for something else but asked for “just ONE more minute to look” and after 20 minutes she came back and took his order. I guess she decided to put our food in before his which would’ve been fine if she had come right back to get his order like he asked but she was MIA.. so our food came about 15 minutes before his did. This was a bummer because we wanted to eat together, so some chose to wait for his, hoping it would come soon, but theirs ended up being cold before his finally got brought out. All of the food actually tasted pretty good, mine was amazing! Just super frustrated at our poor service and lack of communication or even acknowledging her absence by our waitress. All that to say, Would not go again because of that then being forced to pay her for service that was close to...

The place seemed relatively busy, but not completely packed. I went around 2 pm, party of 2, ordered 1 pizza and waited for nearly 40 minutes. It almost seemed like the server was intentionally avoiding our table, and avoiding eye contact. I had walk up and ask a server why there was such a delay, and was told it would be another 15-20 minutes, due to a new employee on the line and lack of staffing in the kitchen. I was fine with waiting, so wait we did. Still, other pizzas came out of the kitchen but we continued to wait for another 25 minutes.

The wait was becoming quite ridiculous, so I asked the bartender how much longer it would be, and was told the pizza was just put in the oven i.e. we would have wait another 10 minutes. I’d give the staff the benefit of the doubt, but clearly we were getting the run-around. At this point, we canceled the order and left. It felt like we were not receiving any attention and did not receive any service, save for when we had to get up and ask a staff member.

I’d rate the food, but I didn’t end up receiving any. To anyone considering this place, you’re better off going to Domino’s. Heck, get that $ 9.95 pizza from Costco, they never disappoint. To put it bluntly, I’ve never been to a more sorry place.

Unfortunately, I will not be returning. These folks need to clean up their act or I don’t see the business being around for too...
