Opening day/night was great!! The staff are all super friendly! The place itself looks like it’s more for it to-go orders, although it does have a lot of seating…Maybe due to just the opening day craziness, they were limited on seating at that time. The layout is very similar to chipotle in that there’s a line to order your food first then you find a table. The line was through the door! But the ladies that were taking everyone’s orders were so nice. The atmosphere is nice, bright, and playing K-pop throughout. The food was amazing! Again, because it was opening day and they were slam-packed, it did take some time to get your food - It’s best to this keep in mind and remain patient during the hype of their grand opening. The potstickers were crispy and absolutely filled! The glaze of the soy garlic sauce on top is perfect as well. The wings are light yet crispy and so juicy!! Again, the garlic was a hit for us & I really enjoyed the Korean BBQ flavor. The other members in my party thought the Korean BBQ flavor was spicy, but personally all I tasted was sweet with a little bit of spice. The japchae was soooo good! And the bibimbap was tasty too!
I would like to note that due to opening day, there were a few kinks that I believe need to be worked out - that will be worked out quick I believe. The combos that were ordered, weren’t quite what was delivered. For instance, I got a 4 wing + 2 drumstick combo, but received 4 drumsticks & 2 wings. My other party member ordered the same thing, however they received 3 drumsticks & 3 wings. The chicken Combo comes with the complementary side, such as coleslaw & a side item (rice, fries, seasoned fries +$1, Korean sweet corn +1). My party & I each ordered fries. I received a much smaller coleslaw cup and a bigger portion of fries. While my other party member received a bigger portion of coleslaw and smaller fry portion.
These 2 are really the only observations that I could see other people complaining about, so I want to make note of it. However, again due to opening day, it could be they were running low so they were doing what they could. We appreciated the fact that if they gave a small portion of coleslaw, then they gave a bigger portion of fries and vice versa. They were also out of bao buns, or they were not available at the time, but that’s just one another thing to try next time!
All in all, with the hectic opening day in mind, my biggest takeaway is that the food is great and the staff is also great! Once those little kinks get worked out, it’ll be even better. And I’ll definitely...
Read moreThis is a late post from their opening day on 9/11, but I went back today to give them another shot and give a relative a chance to try it..picked up my daughter from school early their opening day and decided to travel on in. After reading some reviews, my question about something was answered.
The restaurant was nice and clean as it should be for opening. Surprisingly, they were less busy than expected, quite possibly the weekday opening helped. The staff was nice and helpful as well.
And now for the food...
I ordered 10 wings garlic soy, seasoned fries, pickled radish, and an order of japche. I sent my husband the following review...
'Fries are very tasty...chicken is crispy, could have been hotter as in temp, needed more sauce...got a side of noodles too, they were just okay, needed some extra flavor...just okay overall...'
I ended up ordering a side of kimchi because my daughter was not fond of the pickled radish, unlike myself, but we both have tasted better kimchi. The 'keeping the chicken warm' from other reviews answers why it wasn't as hot as I expected it to be when it arrived to our table. Also, I like my chicken saucy, so dry areas I encountered didn't have much flavor if it didn't have sauce. The japche needed some spice for me and maybe a little salt. Again, I haven't discounted it, but I hear other parts of the country where a Bonchon is located is much better than what I described.
*UPDATE: My son loved it today, and so did I!!! I bought him some to share with co-workers (8 drums, half Garlic Soy/half Spicy, seasoned fries, donut w/ sauce) and I really like the drumsticks in the Spicy flavor better than I liked the Garlic Soy wings!!!! The donut is the business (for those that may be unsure, that means 'really good')!!!! I realize for myself and probably others to order extra sauce on the side if possible if you like your chicken saucy like me. They were very busy today, but they did everything they could to get everyone's food correct and out to them as quickly as possible, considering they had limited kitchen staff. Overheard they are hiring though for anyone looking for a job!!!
But after this second go round,...yes, I...
Read moreBeen planning on eating here for a while and never got around to it until now and all I can say is I wish I hadn't waited so long! First off the place was clean. One of the cleaner restaurants I've been to in a while. I've had all "the best" wing places in Memphis, but Bonchon's double fried wings are up there with the best, if not the best. The size of the wings were well above average and I'd say double to triple the size of the smallest wings you see out there. The crunch of the wings honestly stole the show and the seasond fries (parmesan and seasonings) were incredible. I had the 20 piece wings and seasond fries - half Korean BBQ and the other half spicy. The spicy wings were pretty warm slightly sweet but not too hot. Right there in the perfect heat where you can eat a few of them without having to reach for a drink. The Korean BBQ wings were perfect, big crunch then super sweet with low undertones of spicy. Even the coleslaw was top notch. On the sweet side of tangy with the perfect creamy crunchy consistency. I went around 3 o'clock on a weekday and it only took about 8 mins to get my food to go. The staff was friendly and the cleanliness of the restaurant reflected the pride they take in their presentation and product. Can't say enough about this place. 10/10...
