Called the tops bbq on Rhodes for about an hour finally drove up because we really wanted cheeseburgers. When I get there empty lobby with one person waiting and two people standing by the register. I order my food and maybe four other people come in after me and guess what phone still ringing. Other patrons came in a said they tried to call also and were feed the same story. The older lady was particularly rude as I wanted to review my order to make sure it was right. I didn’t get my drinks but the kind man cooking them fixed them with a smile and told me have a good evening and come again. I probably will come again because at least one person in tops knows how to treat a patron. Maybe tops should make him the cashier and put the rude lady who doesn’t answer the phone, and already has a story for why on the grill. I also called four other tops locations and guess what they all answered after the first...
Read moreI used to love eating at TOPS BBQ! It has been a minute since my last visit. I decided today I would place an order over the phone. It took seven tries (that's how much in the mood I was for TOPS) before someone answered the phone. The unprofessional, unpleasant, snobby person who answered the phone needs to be retrained in customer service and phone etiquette. Why pick up the phone and loudly say TOPS in my ear... your tone showed frustration and your lack of wanting to be at work. I asked if I could place an over the phone and her quick response was.... "it's gone be a minute" and before I could respond she hung up. Yes, not in the mood for TOPS anymore. The food used to be great. However, with that poor customer service, I'm sure the food has gone down in quality as well. I will never again eat from TOPS. I am spending my money for good customer service and food, not to...
Read moreI stopped by during a one night stay in Memphis, having passed this location on the way to my Airbnb. I got a Brisket picnic party pack. The Brisket was overpriced and underwhelming, but the coleslaw and beans were out of this world fantastic. (I have a feeling I should have tried their pork instead. It's half the price and harder to mess up.)
Service was nothing to write home about. It was a tough crowd for a Saturday night, and I couldn't seem to get the ladies behind the counter to crack a smile.
I have a feeling this is a place that would really flourish with an injection of some life. It has the ambience of a long-standing institution whose role in the community and on the culinary scene has been long since taken...
