Sandwich method review- Good, bad, good.
Good: The customer service was very good. The staff inside were friendly and thorough with explaining the menu and being patient with us as my friend and I were first timers. Very friendly.
Needs work: My order was the oxtails with rice and peas and macaroni & cheese. The oxtails were hard/tough/dry as if they cooked too long after all of the gravy was soaked into the meat causing it to be more like jerky. I asked for extra gravy over my rice and peas….a joke was made by the staff that it would be an additional $5. After I received my food, I understood the joke better. He didn’t have any extra gravy to give. The food was dry and the plain white rice is crunchy (undercooked).
The macaroni and cheese was not good either as it lacked flavor and the noodles were overcooked in it.
I also had an order of what should have been the curry shrimp and crab egg rolls. The staff that took my order/payment said I didn’t pay for it, so thankfully I had my receipt and then once I bit into it, I’m 95% sure it was the wrong egg roll as it did not have a single visible shrimp or piece of crabmeat in it.
Good: My friend ordered all vegan options. The “fish” made with banana blossoms and greatly enjoyed that. Additionally, the vegan “wings” made with jackfruit were tasty and had a good crunch when eaten right away. Lastly, the vegan oxtails made with jackfruit held a great flavor as well and mimicked the appearance of oxtails.
Would I try this place again? No. All in all, the service was good and the vegan options were good. Aside from that, if you’re looking for authentic jamaican food, look elsewhere in Jersey or...
Read moreI was going to my local cleaners in Sicklerville when I ran into Kevin and Rose from Rasta Kitchen and they were selling platters out of their car from a heated steam box, and passing out flyers with a smile now, that's a hustle I can respect!
But, to my surprise, the vegetarian food and beverages were all that to me-very healthy choices, and um mmm um the choices were many and it all looked and smelled phenomenal. I have to say, Kevin's knowledge of vegetarian food, and natural herbs and spices had me interested in wanting to taste the food because #1 I couldn't find this type of cuisine at a restaurant nowhere near me that was healthy and tastes so good!
I was very impressed by their pleasant & humble attitudes and down-to-earth vibe. I purchased two vegetarian oxtail platters, with rice & peas & Cabbage, plaintain, and vegan fried chicken with two healthy juices, it meant I wouldn't have to cook dinner, and I was serving my family something healthy, and OMG....the two platters were hefty enough for 4 people and the vegan fried chicken is a must taste. I told a few people already that I know and how I found gem with Rasta Kitchen, and I will be dining in at Rasta Kitchen very soon to try more healthy, menu flavors.
Thank you Kevin and Rose for bringing to our communities healthy eating with a Jamaican Flavor and good vibes that everyone can enjoy-EVERYTHING I purchased was delicious 😋 you better get down to Rasta Kitchen and feel the...
Read moreFirst time here. It’s a local spot for me just a few miles away. I ordered their Oxtail plate with rice & peas plus cabbage. It was $27. Coming from FL that was a steep price. I usually pay $17-$20 for a large plate. Most places in FL offer a regular sized and a large sized plate. Their plastic container was in between in size. The oxtail was appealing in appearance and savory but a little tough. They do use a higher quality large sized boned oxtail. The rice was savory. They gave plenty of the rice & peas and oxtail but were ungenerous on the cabbage. Their cabbage was thinly sliced and not roughly cut into large sections like most other establishments. I prefer my cabbage thickly cut. Theirs is like a coleslaw. It did have flavor though. I enjoyed my plate overall and I would give it a solid 4/5. Service was pleasant and quick. I only waited 5 minutes. I stopped by at 7pm on a Saturday. There was a live DJ jamming with the tunes in the small front lobby area thats a little run down. It was a rocking atmosphere. I didn’t see any patties but thats more of a breakfast food. I have eaten at over twenty Jamaican restaurants in my 27 years of living in FL in the areas of Fort Lauderdale/Miami and...
