In retrospect, the lack of parking and the nasty no parking signs in the adjoining and empty lot should have warned us off. The tomato plant dying of thirst by the entrance should have been the 2nd bad omen for today’s breakfast. But we were undeterred. As we’re seated the first thing that struck both of us was how loud it was. We waited a bit for our server. When she finally showed up, it was clear it was her first day, which was fine. We totally understand how hard that is and she was very sweet. She took our order, an omelet for my husband and a Belgium waffle for me. It was quite awhile before our order came. My waffle was neither a Belgium waffle nor was it hot. It was an ordinary flat waffle that wasn’t even warm. I took a bite and it was gummy in my mouth. To be clear, it wasn’t the server’s fault because my husband’s omelet was hot. I sent it back. I waited and waited for a waffle that never came. After 15 minutes I asked the server and she said the kitchen was backed up. I waited another 15 minutes. By this time my husband was more than halfway done. I went to the front counter and explained my situation to what I assumed was the manager. Instead of trying to make it right, or even an apology, he just asked if I wanted to cancel it. I said no I wanted it. Anyone who has ever eaten a hotel hot breakfast knows that it only takes 3 or 4 minutes to cook a waffle. I sat down and waited another 10 minutes during which I ate some of my husband’s omelet, which was quite good. Finally, I gave up and told the server to cancel it. The server who cashed us out was very nice and apologized but this whole episode makes me think I probably won’t return. My expectation was the manager would have seen to it that our waffle was delivered promptly after learning about the situation, that he would have provided some actual customer service and perhaps some consideration on the bill. But they’ve gotten so popular they don’t have to provide...
Read moreI first arrived at this red barn thinking it was still a chinese establishment. Was that a mis-conception! I was greeted & seated immediately by one of the new co-owners herself. Seems she and her father had just re-located from California, and revamped the interior in farm implements and murals that make the interior look as if you're looking out the window into the farmland surrounding the barn! It's actually tucked into a small parking lot at the end of a strip mall, infront of an electrical supply store and behind the SE corner building. You can easily access it from Haslett Road at Marsh Road. They are open for Breakfast & Lunch. Sundays they get quite the church groups and the local establishments (fire & policemen) are a presence on any day of the week. The fresh breads they use for toast and sandwiches are fantastic! I began with a Denver Omlet, fresh brewed coffee and swirled rye toast. The second time there I got the reuben & fries and a soda for lunch. Very tasty. I have reccommended Blondies to several Webberville friends and neghbors in the years since, as well as taken family members there to share the experience...
Read moreBlondie's Barn is the quintessential country breakfast nook but almost in the city. Tucked behind a Marathon station, you'd hardly know it was there. But the little parking lot was packed at 10:00 A.M. and I learned first hand why. The Johnny Reb was amazing. Perfect sunny side up eggs. Excellent home fries. Tasty sausage links. But the sausage gravy was the star. Fluffy biscuits slathered with excellent sausage gravy. Obviously this wasn't an out of the box or bag gravy. Excellent taste. Plenty of sausage, but finely chunked. Just the right amount of black pepper. The biscuits really soaked up gravy. My in-laws had a breakfast with pancakes, which were large enough to fill a serving platter! Definitely a place to visit if you are in Okemos, East Lansing, or Haslett. I subtract 0.25 star for parking, with a score of 9.75 on a 10. Great experience. I...
