Saturday my friend and I decided to come here because it was a perfect evening to dine rooftop. We went up there from the stairs out back to find chairs scattered all over that had puddles of water on them and dirty tables (glasses and such from previous diners). Found 2 chairs that were good enough to sit at a table we had cleaned off ourselves. There were other patrons with drinks, seated so we sat and waited and waited. No sign of any servers. After 5 minutes my friend went downstairs to see if they were serving up there. They were not. We were frustrated that there wasn't a sign stating so, and that if they had it open, even without service, why weren't the chairs wiped down and tables kept clean. So we found a table downstairs. Waited a bit for our waitress. Placed a drink order- 2 beers. Waited longer than usual for them. Placed an appetizer and decided to place our dinner order at the same time, seeing how things were running slow. Appetizer came out and it was fine. Our meal took way too long to come out, as we each ordered just a burger. Once they did arrive, they were wrong. My friend ordered a bacon mushroom swiss burger, cooked to medium on a pretzel bun. His came out well done, on a brioche bun with one mushroom. That prompted me to check mine. I ordered a well done burger with cheese, pickles and mayo on a brioche bun. All I had was a burger and cheese. No pickles and no mayo. Frustrated and hungry and 1.5 hours later, we again waited for the waitress to come back over. Oh and before the food arrived, we asked for more napkins and a side of ranch. Well we got the ranch but no napkins. So when the waitress came back we informed her of the messed up order. She left our plates of wrong food and said she'd have it corrected. More waiting. She finally came back with the food. All was correct except the burger that was to be cooked medium was so over done it wasn't even juicy. My well done burger as also so overcooked, it was the driest burger I've ever had. Every bite had to be washed down with a beer we ordered during happy hour yet was charged full price for. The reason we ordered burgers was that we saw on the menu that the beef came from Monticello's, a local market that has a phenomenal meat counter, the only place I'll buy meat at. Unfortunately the cooks here don't do it justice. I sincerely hope it doesn't give Monticello's a bad name for those not familiar with their superior quality meats. So 2 hours later we ask for our bills. Plural. 2 bills. We received one bill. With the overpriced happy hour beers. The waitresses reaction was, oh well here you go and tossed out a few ones to make up for it. The worst part, other than it being a waste of time, was that for a burger and 2 beers, the price was over $24, each. Such a waste of money. I'd be happy to pay $24 for a meal but couldn't believe what $24 got me here, such a joke. Walked out of there without leaving a tip. We will not return, as this wasn't the first time we've had a negative experience...
Read moreMy partner and I went here on a Saturday evening after visiting Lake Lansing for an afternoon w/ our 6y old.
We wanted to sit outside - excited to sit on their roof top. Unfortunately, this was only reserved for 21 and up and no sign until already up the stairs... So back downstairs we go. It was fairly busy as it was Saturday evening and it was a nice day, so tables were slim. We did find a dirty table so we stood by and waited...
After ten minutes roughly, we finally were greeted by the server who was again extremely busy. The server mentioned they would be right back to clean the table and get us set up. This went fine, and we got seated and received some drinks and ordered food.
We then waited 45 minutes a least for a wrap, fries and a bowl of thier french onion soup. The server did apologize for the long wait but never asked me if I wanted another cocktail, even though my drink was empty and didn't allow me to ask before walking away again. Again, server was very busy... The food arrived and was cold. The fries were cold and the hot steak wrap had cold tortilla and cheese wasn't melted. They charged $14 for the wrap. I have paid less for better food from a sporting event.
My issue really is with management/owner. At no point during my 2 hr visit did I see a manager present. At no point did I see a manager assisting the staff with anything, or speaking to anyone. There were several others that seemed disappointed and a bit restless from the slow service and non-existent presence of management.
I thought about requesting one, to ask them about the long wait, cold food and the fact I could not get another cocktail without flagging someone down. The fact is the servers were working their butt off with no leadership!
However, at the end of the day the establishment gets my poor review and me never returning. I hope this helps the owner make a change to find decent management or get off their butt to help bring the food and service up to par with their pricing.
On a side note: There is a nice quant family friendly bar next door called the Mayfair Bar. Its decor is not as nice as Bluegill, but the food and service are tremendously better and the prices are better. They also have a roof top area and it allows children. I recommend them over Bluegill if...
Read moreI’m giving this place 2 stars because the ambiance of the place, both downstairs and up on the rooftop bar, is great. The first rooftop bar is a fun place to grab a drink with friends. Otherwise I would give a 1 star. We ate here for the first time about a month ago and were excited to try the food since it’s very close to our home and again the ambiance is very nice. The waitress was extremely inattentive to us. There was only ONE other table in the whole place, and it was just four people. She took our order and when she dropped off our appetizer she took off without asking if we needed anything, and we realized then that we had no napkins and no silverware. We waited a few minutes and she was nowhere to be seen. I had to get up and ask the bartender for what we needed. Also, the appetizer we got was the crab dip, and while that was actually very tasty (best part of the whole meal), it was wayyy overpriced for the quantity. It was served in something like a half an inch of depth and 2” by 4”, it was maybe 3 or 4 oz. total. For $11! We both ordered tacos, one order with steak and the other with shrimp. There was a very minimal amount of steak and it was not warm at all. There were three pieces of shrimp which was fine, but they were also cold, and both sets of tacos had completely cold, raw tortillas, which really took away from the taste and texture of the whole thing. I had also asked the waitress for salsa and she delivered me cocktail sauce instead. The rice was cold and dry and tasteless, and honestly tasted like one of those cheap microwaveable bags of rice. After dropping off our entrees, again the waitress was nowhere to be found, and she did not ask us how anything was or if we needed anything else. We had to actively seek her attention for her to drop off the bill. Very sad, again we really wanted to like this place and have it become a regular place for us to go to dinner at. But it felt like being robbed to pay over $60 for a meal for two people and have to force ourselves to eat cold, unpleasant food. We’ll be back for drinks but if you’re looking for a place to eat at, your best bet is to go next door to Mayfair bar where their food is tasty and at a...
