Caution long review ahead
First I want to say, please take this with a grain of salt, as this is just a good as any other sushi restaurant in the area, my main reason for this post is due to the nearly endless 5 star reviews before mine. I have weighed out giving this place 3 or 1 stars due to Covid, but have found that really all that I can give is 2. The main reasoning for this is I canāt judge on dine-in service, and the people working were friendly.
I should start out by saying that this is probably fine for your average college town sushi go-er who enjoys āsushi burritosā and heavily cream cheese based rolls, but this is not what I was hoping for tonight. I chose this sushi restaurant because of the raving reviews on Google, but with nervous excitement, as my last sushi experience was awful and took quite a while to recover from. Maybe it is the local economics (students and others who would prefer their sushi fried instead of fresh) that doesnāt encourage higher quality sushi restaurants. I myself prefer craft over comfort, and for those who are the same, this review is for you.
The positives: The takeout finished within the quoted time, which today seems to happen less and less. The staff was friendly, and the inside was cute.
The bad: My preference when getting sushi is nigiri and simple rolls; I find that this really shows the caliber of a sushi bar, from the quality of the rice, to the fish, to the unique style used by the chef. Tonight I ordered an assortment of just that, and I can honestly say I did not finish any of it. The seaweed salad was fine, as I am sure it was the same pre-made ones that everyone else in the town uses. When I moved onto the nigiri, I realized that none were shaped, pressed to the rice, and the cuts were so thick they would take two bites to consume. When I went to pick up a nigiri with my chopsticks, the fish came right off, and the rice was left in a jumbled mess in the box. I was also surprised to find, when flipping the cut over, there was no wasabi. Essentially what you get is a chunk of fish laid over rice. The fish smelled fine so I decided to try it, come to find out the rice wasnāt even vinegar-ed, just simple white rice that was over cooked! I tried a bite of each nigiri, but found after the 3rd piece that I would be unable to force it down. Moving on to the simple rolls was the same, the negi (green onion) was cut enormous in the yellowtail negi roll, and the cucumber tasted old, and again neither of the rolls had wasabi. By the end of about 6 bites, I decided to throw it all out and eat last nights leftovers.
Again I want to reiterate that I am sure their college style rolls are equally as fried and decent compared to the other restaurants in town, but based on the raving reviews I had expected more. I also again want to say that it is possible that COVID has affected this restaurants margins to the point where serving quality food is not viable, which is so extremely sad. My main point is, for someone who is looking for a traditional sushi restaurant in town, and found this place based on the high ratings, this isnāt it. I hope this place keeps serving the happy customers in the local community the way they enjoy their āsushiā, but I can personally say I will not be a...

We asked the waitress if we could dine in and order more food before our pick up order was ready! She ignored our request! She just rudely left our pick up order on the nearby table with only a word ādoneā! So rude and arrogant! I never experienced anything like this!
The irony is that she treated differently when she faced a white couple. We felt racially discriminated against from her! She herself is an Asian and she rudely treated usā¦
Highly recommend this place if you want to experience rude and arrogant service!
We received a call from the restaurant owner, and the owner gave training to the employees. We improved our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been to some of the best sushi restaurants in the greater Lansing area. This place just doesn't do it. The prices are cheap compared to high quality sushi. But cheap prices explain the dull flavors. We ordered several rolls and they had no flavor at all. I could tell they don't season their sushi rice properly. Then all of our rolls were not made right, they all fell apart like a messy whopper. It was kind of disappointing. I personally won't go back. I rather spend a little more money for great sushi or just make my own at home before I eat here again. The place was decorated so cute, and clean. People don't know good sushi,...
