I ordered something from Wei's Cantonese. They have a listing on Uber Eats. I'm not sure if they do Doordash. I just wanna try something Asian from a place I haven't ordered yet, and I chose this one.
The serving size for all the three items I ordered feels like they're at least 25% bigger than the usual serving size portions you get from Chinese takeouts. That alone created a good impression since their pricing is competitive with other Asian restaurants. There is something DECEPTIVELY good with the way the meals were cooked.
The Mongolian Beef I think is the best Mongolian Beef I've tasted yet. At least here in Idaho. Before this one, I think Gouang Zhou has the best version but since that restaurant is now closed, I think this one is the clear winner.
Well, actually, even if Gouang Zhou did not close, I still think I'd still prefer Wei's version.
The Mongolian Beef has a soup. That soup is great. The sauce is thick (not liquidy) and has a very nuanced taste. My hunch is oyster sauce but I'm not a cook.
In any case, any Asian cook who knows how to use oyster sauce is a tier above your normal Asian cook. The Mongolian Beef could have gotten away with a simple soy sauce but the cook went the extra mile with it.
Same thing can be said with the noodles and the fried rice. They may tend to look very generic, but I can easily tell that the person who cooked them has legit skills.
I think the product listings could have benefitted from a more professional looking photos, because the picture may tell you that the items are mediocre, but as of now, where things stand, Wei's Cantonese is a contender for the best Chinese place I've tried in Idaho. And this is coming from someone who has tried Wok Fusion, Red Pavillion, and Yen Ching.
The food feels like you've visited an Asian family dinner and it just so happened that the family cook is really really that great. Maybe there's no intention to make the serving look restaurant-like, but it doesn't matter. The food is...
Read moreOn their website it mentions "dine in" but this is not the case. When I sent my husband to pick up the food, he was very confused. He said there was no sign on the building and once he got inside it was difficult to navigate through the commercial kitchen building to follow the signs of where to go to find the pick up cabinet with our order. He was successful and encountered a worker whom was helpful and friendly. Once we unpacked our order at home, we were quite pleased to find our order was correct and the portions were GENEROUS! The food was fresh and delicious. We got mandarin chicken, wagyu beef chow mein and Hawaiian pork. We also got to try their spring rolls as a bonus for spending $30 (coupon on their website). We really enjoyed our food and experience at home and thought how affordable the prices were and creative to not have to employ a bunch of staff for serving in person. Love that it's so close to our...
Read moreAfter spending months and months complaining to friends about the lack of authentic chinese food in the treasure valley I have finally found one worthy of being called the best in the area. Wei's cooking was simply phenomenal and authentic. The pork dumplings were massive and the sausage inside was packed with flavor. The kung pao chicken had the perfect balance of heat and flavor. Not super salty or overly sugary like the food served at more american style chinese places in the area. Food was ready within minutes and the prices are super affordable for the generous portion sizes. A $15 entree can easily feed two people. I can't wait to try their honey walnut shrimp or General Tso's in the...
