I have lived in Mesa since 2013 and i often deliver food through Uber and buy food for my family from this restaurant. I love the mushrooms there and other food has been just as good.
Tonight I ordered carryout and i got there before be n it was ready (no big deal as it always has been worth the wait.)
I stood at the bar and watched the MMA fight that was on between to women competitors. While standing there two older males and an older female were at the end of the bar and started a heated loud conversation about how there was a bar called Spook Hill Bar that closed. They were upset that the word spook is offensive and compared it to Squaw Peak Mountain, saying it is still Squaw and the name shouldn't have to be changed due to people being "overly sensitive."
The males then began talking about the female fighters on the TV. They questioned whether it was a man fighting a woman and then they started saying the woman likely have deeper voices than theirs and they could probably write their name with their urine in the snow. They went further to talk about people who are transgender, saying they themselves should be able to identify as a mug of beer if they want.
I stood there wanting to leave and I was embarrassed by the comments as I am an African American female. Many of the racist comments caused other people around the bar to look at me and they appeared uneasy, looking down when their eyes met mine.
The men then spoke about liberals and millennials who are ruining our country saying gays and lesbians are also the problem. They talked about Bruce Jenner, saying "people like him" will change their minds and want their male plumbing back, with doctors saying too bad. They then said males who transition to women should have their vehicle's engines run like them, saying they would be slow and low functioning.
Two servers walked through and around the bar serving patrons while I waited and said nothing. To my knowledge nothing was said to the males and the comments only grew more embarassing and humiliating.
When I got home, I called the bar manager (who said her name is Stacey) and she was able to identify the males as they were still in the bar. She said the male manager who usually works the bar will shut down inappropriate conversations and she will speak to him and the other servers who were working tonight, saying nothing about the males who made the comments.
I do not feel welcome at the restaurant anymore and will no longer eat there. Not because the food is bad, but because no one should have to be subjected to that kind of hate.
I belive in freedom of speech and I value the ability to live in a country where you don't have to agree on political views and you can have your own opinion and and live the life you want; however outward hate rascisim, sexism and gender discrimination in a public place is not alright nor acceptable.
This restaurant often has families with children who eat there and the conversation was not only vulgar and inappropriate, it was layered with hate and humiliation. It was loud and obvious to anyone who was present, to...
Read moreUPDATE - I know I should have said something but, I didn't want to upset other customers. So, my boyfriend and I went in to watch the Vikings game this morning. Got there about 1030. We sat at the table by where the Vikings game was going to be on. There were about 5 others sitting there also Vikings fans. They greeted us right when we got there. Talking about being Vikings vans. They were already done eating. The waitress came and asked them if they wanted more coffee however not addressing my boyfriend and I. The waitress went and got coffee for the others sitting at the same table. Again didn't even address my boyfriend and I. The waitress gave the others their bill and collected them.... Still not addressing us. The other customers mentioned the Vikings was going to be on TV. My boyfriend and I discussed if we should stay our not, but when another waitress came around filling coffee and not addressing us, we decided to just leave. Again, I know I should have said something but we would have had to talk over all the others sitting at the same table. Not sure we will go back and try it again or not. I have talked to others about this and others think it may have someone to do with my boyfriend being black. That never crossed my mind and Iam praying that is not why we have been agored.
I have gone here many times, mostly to watch football almost every Sunday. Was great and great waitresses. Decided to go to dinner there tonight since we haven't been there in a while. Choose there because we knew they had great food. Well.... Tonight not the case. My boyfriend ordered the Italian Stallion sandwich. Nothing he expected. Mostly bun and fries were like warm....took over a 1/2 hour for that to come out and when it did, I was told my chicken fried steak was being remade because "something" went wrong with it. About 20-25 minutes later it came out. I think the mash potatoes sat on the plate the whole hour I waited for my food. When it finally came.... something was still wrong. I did not like it at all. I even had my boyfriend try it and he did not like it either. When the waitress came back my boyfriend said I didn't like it. She didn't say a word and walked away. Then she came back and asked if we wanted boxes. NOPE!! Thinking there would be a discount on the hour wait...NOPE. She took our plates.... Not a word about why we hardly ate anything. Only thing that I did like and ate was the zucchini. I know I should have said something, but didn't want to cause a scene.... And didn't want to waste my time as the waitress didn't seem to...
Read moreWow. I’d been here before, years ago and had a good time. This was a total miss. We went for the Cardinal’s game and it was bad. Upon arrival we were told they were out of bone in wings. Kind of odd being that it was afternoon on game day. And we were an hour early. The waitress was surly and just uncaring, it was obvious. We went ahead and ordered. We got nachos and mozzarella sticks to start. The nachos had chips that were completely burnt and the cheese was cold. Inedible. What was worse is they served them knowing that. The cheese sticks were gross. Also cold and with a marinara that was like straight tomatoes. I’ve never sent food back and I had to. The waitress was not nice. She did admit they were actually out of chips and had to make do with these and they were concerned with how they turned out. All I could think is if you knew they were bad, don’t serve them. Then she explained the cheese sticks were in a beer batter that tastes like beer that some don’t like. When I asked if I could order something else her reply wasn’t something kind like, “sure, so sorry that happened.” It was, “well, what do you want?” In a tone that suggested if my answer wasn’t correct then no, I couldn’t. I was kind of shocked. We honestly would have left if my son hadn’t placed an order as well. I’d seen her be short with another table as well and another table have issue with food. This was just not good service at all.
In between that we’d asked where the game would be shown (on screen) and they weren’t sure. We’d asked to know where to sit. Then we’d asked if closed captioning could be put on and again, no. It was like they couldn’t be bothered. They did turn the volume up, which was appreciated, but in a loud restaurant, didn’t help.
All I could think was thank goodness it was preseason and just the two of us and not the whole family. My son had reservations about going there and wanted to go to our regular place, but I’d talked him into it saying I’d been there years ago and how great it was. I felt so dumb. The food we got wasn’t good, fries were cold, drinks had to be asked to be refilled and more than once. In the end I stopped asking and we left before half time. Horrible. We’ll never be back. I really thought we’d have a good place close to home again. We hadn’t been since Covid, but no. Awful. Save yourself the trouble. Bad food and the service made...
