After seeing some positive reviews of this place as a Japanese/ sushi stop, I decided to take the plunge and plan a full dinner this evening. It was a clear disappointment. After the pot stickers/gyoza (which was good), the quality and freshness of the food and flavors was markedly poor while the cost remained far too high for the level of product offered. Go elsewhere, no matter what Asian cuisine you are looking for.

The restaurant is located on the southeast corner of Main and Power roads in Mesa. The internet listing of Zugoi declare this restaurant is a Japanese/Sushi spot, but when you walk in and when you look at the menu, it is clear this place doesn't know what it wants to be. It declares it is Japanese, sushi, Chinese, and Thai at different places on the menu. But this lack of focus translates to less than fresh food and over sugared dishes throughout.

Our party tried several items: sushi rolls, gyoza/pot stickers, chicken yakisoba, yellow curry, penang curry, along with the free mizo soup and salad cup. The sushi chosen was called "firecracker," marked as spicy. It was not spicy at all, but it was heavily saturated in a thick sugary teriyaki-like syrup. It was a very disappointing selection. The pot stickers were served hot, and they were actually quite good. The chicken yakisoba was acidic and half warmed. The noodles seemed overcooked, and the chicken meat tasted gummy to the point of having the consistency of tofu- yuck. The penang and yellow curries were likewise disappointing, with poor flavor, spongy chicken, and served half warm.

While the food was disappointing, one could possibly understand it if the pricing was discounted from regular Japanese spots, but tlit was the opposite. The pricing was high. The dinner listed above was $110 with tip. Way too high. If the food was stellar, it still would have been steep, but I would have accepted it.

In contrast to that the service was quite good. The server was quick, attentive, and accurate.

Unfortunately, with all the other issues, good customer service couldn't rescue this restaurant from the deep deficit it was in. The only reason I didn't leave one star for this review is due to the good customer service our...

Owners, are more to the point of why you are there, not so much as to welcoming us as guests, giving time, for example to order, as this was our first visit. Smiling, in my opinion goes much further than any other face made, especially for 1st impressions during seating, insuring meal had no issues. The food is average, I had spicy salmon sushi roll, obviously it was made prior, it took all of 6 mins for it to be brought out, it was dry, and less than 1 pea size of meat. I also had a sm. Hot sake, tasted watered down. Prices were good for the portion size, but there was no flavor, except the seaweed paper, not spicy at all. I would gladly pay a few dollars more for more fresh meal, and wait a but longer for it to be made to order. We were there by 4pm, no other customers were there. I would reccommend, if you have tried elsewhere and the prices are too high, but i don't plan to return, unless they change to what I mentioned above....

I wouldn't recommend their Thai food. Pad thai chicken consisted of tons of flavorless noodles, undercooked chicken , a lime and side on peanuts. It was terrible. I contacted the store about the issue and they were not eager to help resolve the problem. They accused me of being dishonest about the chicken being undercooked. I brought it back down to them because at this point I wasnt going to eat it nor did I want anything else I just wanted my money back. They brought a bowl of chicken out for me and wanted to prove to me its pre cooked and insisted I touch it even after refusing multiple times. I nicely explained some of the chicken was opaque and I like my chicken well cooked and they proceeded to go get scissors to cut the chicken. I was shocked at how they handled the entire situation. I will definitely not be going back . Side note: My family frequents there for sushi this was my first time ordering...

We really like this place, stopping by after dancing. The service was quick and no nonsense (literally as soon as we put out chopsticks down she came to check on us). We had the general tso's chicken, it served with broccoli which was odd and the sauce was a bit sour (as in acidic not bad) which was unexpected and closer to sweet and sour chicken but still really good. The chicken did not taste at all woody and the breading was crisp. We also ordered the chicken pad thai. It was well balanced and 'medium spicy" was just as zesty as you want pad thai -flavor without being a bother to eat. The food had giant portions so it will last for two-3 lunches over the next couple days. We will definitely return next time we are in Arizona.

First time to try and absolutely last time Only rates one star due to the amazing sweet lady that was our server and hostess. Beyond that this place was absolutely disgusting. Way overpriced for rotten, small portioned , nastiness. We ordered the baked green mussels they were literally rotten, see picture . the drunken noodles mostly was veggies with little meat or noodles and the beef was very dry and hard to chew. We had 3 rolls and all the rolls were very small, the rice very dry and again the fish smelt and tasted off. Had the miso soup and the paint from the bowl was literally flaking off into our soup pic attached . the Eat here at your own risk .
