We have had our eye on this place since it opened a while ago… Decided to go ahead and try it tonight for the first time. Let me preface my review by stating that we really wanted to love this place as we love mom and pop restaurants and I know it is a definitely a different kind of place decor wise. The atmosphere was great, they had karaoke going on. We were sat right away but our waitress did not come to our table for over 10. minutes, the hostess came over and asked us what we like to drink since our waitress was busy. In their defense I did order off the menu wanting to try the peanut butter and jelly burger and my wife got a patty melt, she asked for a side salad to be delivered before our meal. After waiting about 15 minutes I finally got up and went to the hostess and asked our waitress he was up there cashing out a check if we can have our salad before our dinner to her reply was “I have another table who is complicated I will get to your salad as soon as I can… Unfortunately the salad was delivered to the table and then our main entrées followed about three minutes later. My burger was literally peanut butter on one side jelly on the other with a hamburger patty… It was not good whatsoever, my wife’s patty melt was really good and our sweet potato fries and tater tot‘s were lukewarm at best… It was just an overall bad experience with the food not being good and the service not being good, I understand people are shorthanded but we heard another server complaining that it had been a long day so if you have two of your three servers complaining to customers you obviously have a problem. Such a shame because we really wanted to love this place like I stated earlier it’s just not being ran correctly...
Read moreOSG Cafe is family-friendly independent restaurant in the heart of East Mesa, featuring classic Midwestern American dishes.
OSG has daily specials including an all-day Sunday brunch buffet and Karaoke on Friday and Saturday evenings. Several of their sauces are house-made, including the hollaindaise sauce for eggs Benedict. Cheesecakes are also homemade by one of the owners.
I was able to sample a variety of their most popular items from appetizers, breakfast, lunch and dessert thanks to a tasting event hosted by #TasteofArizona
The fried dishes were crispy and not overly greasy. The fried zucchini was well-seasoned and not mushy, as so frequently happens. The hash browns were nice and crispy without being oily, with a good flavor and just enough salt.
Unfortunately, there were a few let-downs. The vegetables in the omelet and Philly Cheesesteak were undercooked, and the cheesesteak meat was a bit too thick. Although the hollaindaise was decent, the English muffin in the eggs Benedict was quite soggy.
Dessert was middle of the road. We sampled their rainbow cake, lemon meringue pie, and pumpkin cheesecake. The cheesecake is a dense, New York style and was quite creamy. The pumpkin wasn't incredibly pronounced, but the flavor was good regardless. The lemon meringue pie was ok. The lemon curd base was tangy without being sticky and artificial. However, the topping was just whipped topping, not meringue. The rainbow cake was a bit dry about on par with a grocery store cake.
Prices are about average for this type of restaurant, averaging around $15 a plate. If you're a fan of dishes like chicken fried steak, liver and onions, and cabbage rolls, then you will likely...
Read moreFirst I will say that the service is absolutely awesome all of the stuff there is very very friendly our waitress went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed even when we were up at the breakfast bar asking us if we were doing okay with our drinks and food. Now as far as the food goes it's well just okay I guess kind of tasted like TV dinner or cafeteria food and very heavily salted I don't want to sound mean by saying this but most of the demographic and there was probably over 70 years old so the quality and style of food definitely fit the demographic. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great. The biscuits and gravy were probably the best thing there how long at the pozole. The atmosphere is also whatever I guess very very crowded in there not a whole lot of room to move around,, the dishes situation was very eclectic to say the best they had probably 20 different kinds of plates of varying sizes to use a half the buffet LOL not one of them matched it's okay I guess you have to keep calls down and maybe it's to give the feel of being at someone's house but it just came off funny to me it didn't affect the food just an interesting observation. It was $17 for an adult Buffet which I feel for what the quality of the food was on the selection was very high you can actually go to one of the local casinos for the same price and get food that's 10 times better. I know that they started over in the mall with a couple places that didn't succeed but they are very friendly people as far as the owners go I hope they do succeed I also hope that their quality of food goes up but as buffets go this is probably the standard at this point for a little mom...
