How do I even start this review I just left we got there at 2:11pm and wow what a experience. The servers are not friendly me and another member of my group went up to see the pig and ducks that were hanging and we were instantly asked by a gentleman behind the counter to buy one we explained that we were sitting down at a table and he started entertaining things on the computer and told us are total was $36 and we said again we are sitting down . Now We were a party of 5 we got sat down right away . But that's when the problem started a lady with a cart came over we explained that this is are 1st time here and we don't know how this works what is the cart for and she proceeded to open up containers of dim sum and put it on the table us not realizing that we were going to be paying for food we didn't ask for . We just asked what was the cart for . We asked for menus and were given 2 menus for the 5 of us to share after a while . We had to ask another waitress if we can order after not seeing are waitresses at all, she disappeared to the back and then are waitresses comes to take out order , are food came out fairly quickly and hot ..... now the taste of the food was another story half of are parties food was good the other half not so much . My wonton noodle soup the wontons were good the soup part had no flavor . The pork over rice was really good . The chicken chow main had no flavor . We also got Peking duck for $45 I expect to get all the meat that was in the duck . We were served the skin separately with bread which tasted great then was also told in a separate dish we would receive the meat . There was mostly corn then meat . We were also given lettuce and sauce ( the waitress did explain this is how they serve it when we asked about it and that was fine ) We eat are food and are waitress is no were to be found to refill are waters or check on us . We needed napkins and I had to go get them from the waitress station cause at this point there were no waitresses or waiters to be seen . As we are eating we notice waitress have there purses and belongings and start leaving for the day there saying bye to each other saying bye to the group of cooks sitting in the back eating ARE WAITRESSES INCLUDING . She never said anything to us . We get done eating and my party and several other parties are standing up and looking around for there assigned sever all you see is a single waitress she was heavily pregnant but was a god sent she busted her butt to help us she helped us get cashed out and was soooo nice ! There was another waitress toward the end that came from the back and was helping her . But wow this is are 1st and...
Read moreStill in shock! Server came up to my table and kept repeating to us all ..did you pay..did you pay...and mind you we spent almost $100 for lunch. I said, Yes I just did. Was waiting for the rest of the table to finish tea etc ..Then she comes over yet again and says ...where my tip...I don't see a tip on the table? Granted we were still finishing up tea packing up to go items left etc...and noticed NONE of the other tables did or were leaving a tip surrounding us and usually I will leave too as I'm leaving..so we put cash tip on table and she immediately grabbed it off the table... seriously this place was a place I frequented kind of a regular... I think that is especially why I am still in shock!!!! Just why....I and my family, friends always treated them kind and respectfully when there. What possessed this server to be like this... OMG 😳! Even though their prices are high and not listed, hard to get carts coming by your table sometimes, food could be hotter temperature wise and fresher out of carts, staff runs hot/cold depends on day you go honestly.... NEVER have I EVER experienced such an unprofessional manner to approach customers especially when you are there with your family trying to understand WHY did this server do this and acted in such a RUDE unnecessary manner. WHY? There are so many other places out there that would never do this, prices better, flavor and especially treatment of their PAYING customers in more ways than one! She was inexcusable and lucky that my family was there or I would have given her my thoughts on this. You have been warned proceed with caution when you dare to go to Mekong Palace! Save your family from their staff...woooow. I mean think about how you would feel. So unnecessary and just beyond definition of being RUDE! They really need to RETHINK how they conduct business and what...
Read moreGrowing up in Hong Kong, I had the pleasure of experiencing the deliciousness of dim sum.
So, when I stumbled upon this restaurant and saw the photo of pork siu mai with roe on top, I knew I had to give it a try.
The service format at the restaurant might seem a little different than what non-Chinese people may be used to, and it took me a while to be greeted by a waitress.
Although the restaurant is located in a mall's food court, it has a charming and traditional atmosphere. The old wooden furniture and antiques on display added to the ambiance of the restaurant, making it a unique dining experience.
While the shrimp Ha Gao had a thicker wrapper than I prefer, and the shrimp was overcooked, the siu mai without roe and the black bean sauce pork were not bad. I was disappointed to find out that the restaurant did not include roe with the siu mai. But it was still enjoyable.
Two significant things stand out to me at this restaurant.
First, there is a tank of fresh, live seafood, so I’m surprised the restaurant didn’t name itself a seafood restaurant – something that becomes a class of its own in my culture.
Second, it appears to make its own roasted duck. The duck could have used a touch more saltiness with the meat under the skin, but it was juicy and delicious.
To pay for my lunch, I had to take my “lunch card” up to the cashier – mentioning this, in case you’re sitting at your table, forever, waiting for a waitress, who may or may not come.
Overall, I was grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy this style of food. The restaurant's commitment to tradition is admirable, and I appreciate that they haven't altered their dishes to cater solely to non-Chinese palates. The subtlety and nuance of Cantonese cuisine may not be for everyone, but I think the restaurant...
