The restaurant is nice and clean, and the service was fine. Ultimately, this is a restaurant that serves food, and not just your everyday food, but Peruvian food. Being first-generation American, both my parents and their relatives were all born in Peru, and with that came the best cooked meals ever. Now, I understand that you can never really get that at home type cooked meal when you go out to eat, but there are and have been plenty of Peruvian restaurants that offer delicious plates, that you want to go back to, over and over again. This place is not one of them. Although the service was good and the atmosphere was nice, the food was subpar. On top of that, the prices are so over the top that it definitely factored into my score. The highest price I have paid for Peruvian food, is maybe 17.00 per plate, and that is based on the plates I ordered. Those plates were delicious and worth every penny spent. I ordered the ceviche here, and it was bland and from what I could taste, they used the wrong fish. Seemed like they were using tilapia or something. The cuts also seemed to validate this. That plate was 19.00. I also ordered tallarin Saltado, which happens to be one of my favorite plates to order, and this is due to the flavor this plate is filled with tons of flavor. This plate was so bland and I could tell before I even ate it by how there was no color to the noodles. The meat used wasn't even good, and there was no flavor of the all around food cooked into the meat. This plate was over 20.00. The portions given were ridiculous also. Over priced food, that has absolutely no worth to be called Peruvian food. Now, my 2 stars come from atmosphere and service, and I will add the alfajores to that. But none of that will ever entice me to ever return to order over priced, non Peruvian flavored food. Thank you, but...
Read moreReviewer Alex W said it best in his review of this place. We came expecting delicious Peruvian food and left and vowed we will never come back. I ordered Ceviche de pescado, and the taste was off. The fish was soft but the pieces were too big and I question what kind of white fish they used. There was a flavor that made the taste a bit off that made it 'not traditional' Peruvian food. The portion of the ceviche was small for $19. My husband ordered a whole chicken thinking it was going to be savory... We were soo wrong! The chicken was covered in big pieces of herb seasoning, the meat was dry, and there was nothing savory or traditional about the chicken. The price was $22 for the whole chicken with rice and a side. They also served some odd mayo on the side for the chicken, which I have never seen before in any Peruvian restaurant in the states or in Lima. The only good thing I can say was the place was clean and the service was good, and the alfajores were good... but the chef knows nothing about true traditional Peruvian cuisine. I'm first generation American with my father side of the family all from Peru. 'Taste of Peru' did serve food that tasted traditional, but this Tumi 2.0 is a definite disappointing downgrade to 'Taste of Peru'. The food is far overpriced for food that doesn't even taste Peruvian. We will look elsewhere for REAL traditional...
Read moreThis restaurant has been renovated and under new ownership. It takes 40 minutes from my home, but Peruvian food is the best, so we don't care about little details. Among the various repetitive southern restaurants, this restaurant stands out. The food is fresh and warm. The young man who works there is very kind and professional. We had Aji de pollo and rice, beef stew is the best, and Papa rellena, alfajor caramel filled cookies, and purple corn drink and passion fruit drink. We also bought rotisserie chicken and fresh French fries. Thank you for serving us and talking about Peru. We will come back another time. Update: we still come there at least once a month, and the portions are big. (The young man is the only waiter, and he is busy. Please take time to enjoy another culture and appreciate this place despite the bad reviews from...
