My wife and I celebrated our birthday month at Katherine's Steakhouse on 27 Sep 2024. Living in Las Vegas (LV), we decided to eat here because: (1) we had a bunch of coupons sent to us for a free night's stay at CasaBlanca Resort-Casino-Golf-Spa and another coupon for a free appetizer or dessert at this restaurant (no, I am not one of those coupon warriors); and (2) my family and I first tried this restaurant several years ago and although I don't recall what we ordered during that visit, it was good enough to want to try it again, regardless of having a coupon or not.
The service at this restaurant was good - the hostesses were friendly and our main server, Nimer, was professional, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. The one drawback to the service (not towards one individual), was that I was slightly disappointed that the restaurant didn't acknowledge it was our birthdays...yes, I specified this in our reservation. Not to mention, I'm used to restaurants, especially ones that focus on "fine dining," asking or verifying that customers are(n't) celebrating anything during that visit. Obviously I didn't lose sleep over this, but I figured it was still worth mentioning.
For our food, we ordered the Lobster Bisque, Maryland Crab Cakes, and Super Lump Crab Cocktail for our appetizers; Mac and Cheese and Broccoli for our sides; and Colorado Lamb Chops and 16-oz Ribeye for our main entrées. We ordered the Grand Marnier Soufflé for our dessert at the beginning when we placed our entire order; however, due to a slight oversight on the restaurant, we didn't get to try it - they forgot to place the order in the system at the beginning. Needless to say, we were so full that we probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much...so yes, I was appreciative of the fact that they forgot to place the order, and contrary to the saying, there's NOT always room for dessert. Everything we ordered was notable; however, I felt the steak and mac and cheese were mediocre. The steak wasn't awful by any means but I didn't feel the beef quality was as good as I thought it would be...though, the seasoning and temperature were adequate. The star performers for that evening were the lamb chops, broccoli, and crab cocktail.
The prices are extremely reasonable at this restaurant. A bottle of Cabernet cost us $28 which normally would cost at least 60% more in LV which is astonishing for Mesquite residents or visitors. The restaurant décor and lighting provides a rustic yet elegant look/feel which was a comforting experience. The biggest negative for me was that this business allows customers to bring in pets/animals (someone brought a dog in a baby stroller while we were eating). Whereas, I have minimal issues when businesses allow this if the seating arrangements were outside, but since there are people in this country that have allergies to animals, including a family member of mine, I'm not a fan of supporting businesses that allow this. Not to mention, it's already gross to see human hair in your food...why double that chance in having animal hair as well? Also, the tables and chairs were very close to each other in this restaurant which can make navigating tough for some folks - I watched a few chairs/customers get bumped from other people walking by several times.
Overall, I liked the experience, as depicted in my 4-star rating...and I'll even recommend this restaurant to residents who have never been here; to visitors staying on this property, and for folks that are planning on just passing through this city. For my family and I, I don't see us trying this restaurant again down the road; I have a difficult time supporting businesses that allow animals within the same vicinity of where I am eating...especially when I'm paying a certain amount of money for...

When is the last time you looked at someone and automatically assumed their economic status? Was it because of their clothing, their hair style, maybe their hands weren't as clean as you would like. Oil stains IYKYK.
Here in Vegas we have a trough ton of blue collar workers that are well over 6 figures easily. You'd never know. Yes they may have oil under their nails with stained hands, and wear their Michael Meyers jump suits- but did you check out their steel toes. Could be Cody James, Haix or a similar type. My purpose for this, just because a person's outward appearance to you doesn't fit what you'd consider able to pay a bill, doesn't mean that person can't. Js
I had to go to UT for some quick business errands. And decided I wanted steak for dinner on the way back into Vegas. I have never been to this casino but figured why not. I've seen the advertisements everywhere and it is always very appealing.
Upon entering it was obvious this was truly a locals favorite so I figured this was a good choice. They didn't have seating available so opted to sit at the bar. If you know me, you know I don't really drink due to bad issues in the past. It was my party and another party after mine who opted for bar seating.
We were all shown our seats. Menus were given. Now the party after me, their drink order was taken. Then finally mine. Opted for hot Tea and lemonade. Everyone up and down the bar was given complimentary bread and cheese. Mine came right before the main course was brought out. But not before the bar tender/ server asked if it was wanted. And no he didn't ask anyone else if they wanted it just my party. For reference, the bartender/server just put it on the bar top in front of each party that was seated. Never once asked any of them that question.
Opted for the Porterhouse and New York, loaded potato, mashed Potatoes, and corn. Now once again everyone and I mean everyone food came out first. Then my party. Now I'm driving back to Vegas and the wait for the food was about 60 mins. So while the food was good, I couldn't stay long enough to really enjoy it. So opted to get it to go. The other party that came in after me opted for theirs to go as well. Guess who's food got tended to first.
Now the coup de grais of this. When is the last time a server or bar tender handed you a check but read it out loud and looked at you for you to understand the cost? I don't know about you, but I'm always handed the check usually in a black small mini folder and they usually tell me take your time. This particular bar tender/ server handed out the other checks to the other patrons in the small black folder, not humiliating them. Js. This is where the don't judge a book by its cover comes to play. Yes my party may have just gotten off work and we all may be blue collar workers, but that doesn't mean we cant afford our meal.
I can't recommend nor not recommend. Maybe I was here on the wrong day and truly the wrong time. Maybe if I chose to wait for seating it would have been a different experience. But I can stress this. My party was seated at the bar so it was not necessary to be dressed up. And majority of the people around us had on shorts and casual clothes. Pricing for the portions and quality was really reasonable.
Location is Casa Blanca Casino in Mesquite-...
Read moreWent for my birthday first time. mesquite local and I made reservations was not impressed in the slightest. The food was fine. But several things that bothered me during our dinner, the atmosphere was not fine dining the other tables around us were very loud. To start we were sat in a corner where the table was pushed back so far we couldn’t even get in to sit down and right next to it was a tray just sitting out from previous customers with dirty plates stacked on it. The busboy I assume came to the table and knocked over the salt and pepper shakers immediately, and while waiting to even order as they brought out another tables food that same boy knocked a plate off the cart right next to us and it shattered into pieces with food falling to the floor. Next Our food came and he was putting our plates on the table the busboy spilled sauce from the plate onto the table & we weren’t checked on til the very end of our visit, we had been asked by the hostess & busboy were we celebrating something and I told both my birthday. we were at the end of our dinner and plates were cleared & I think they forgot or didn’t mention to anyone anything about it being my birthday so one of the guests at the table said something to them about it kindly and then about 10 mins later they came out with a lava cake. They spelt happy birthday wrong in chocolate. Brithday. My friend immediately noticed as did I & the server was laughing when she mentioned it... might I mention the lava cake was cold.. in the middle it was like pudding and the cake was not warm in the slightest. So clearly it was rushed and attention to detail was subpar at best. It just was disappointing and sloppy to be frank. I don’t intend on returning. As we got our check the server he threw several piles of mints on the table to us & while we paid that same bus boy was walking down the hall between seating and bar he was carrying a table to the back or towards other seating and he slammed into the exit sign on the ceiling right next to us.. definitely had better experience with better service & less bothersome experiences at many...
