Dr. Jones – A Hidden Gem of Bold Flavors and Comfort Food
Tucked away in a cozy corner of town, Dr. Jones is the kind of restaurant that feels like a well-kept secret—until you take your first bite and realize it’s a place worth telling everyone about. With a menu packed full of soulful, flavor-packed dishes, this spot effortlessly blends comfort food with an adventurous twist.
Let’s start with the meat pies, which are nothing short of addictive. Each bite delivers a perfect balance of flaky, buttery crust and a savory, well-seasoned filling that melts in your mouth. They’re rich, indulgent, and the kind of thing you’ll be thinking about long after your meal.
The chicken here is on another level. Whether you get it fried to crispy perfection or slow-cooked in a deep, flavorful sauce, it’s clear that the kitchen knows exactly how to treat this staple right. Tender, juicy, and seasoned just right, it’s the kind of dish that keeps you reaching for just one more bite.
But if there’s one thing you absolutely can’t skip, it’s the gumbo. This bowl of Southern comfort is loaded with deep, smoky flavors, perfectly cooked seafood and sausage, and just the right amount of heat. Each spoonful is a warm hug, a reminder of why gumbo is a classic that never goes out of style.
For those who love bold, fiery flavors, the jerk steak is a must-try. Grilled to perfection and coated in a jerk seasoning that balances heat with a touch of sweetness, this dish is a showstopper. The steak is tender and full of flavor, with just the right amount of char to enhance every bite.
And then, there’s the bread pudding—a dessert so good it deserves its own fan club. Soft, rich, and drizzled with a sauce that should probably be bottled and sold, this dish is the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable meal.
Dr. Jones isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Whether you’re here for the gumbo, the jerk steak, or just a plate of warm, comforting food that feels like home, this place delivers in every way. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and get there soon. Your taste buds...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful dinner at Dr. Jones. All three of the small plates we tried were absolute knockouts! The tuna crudo with sungold tomatoes and umeboshi was so bright and fresh, the jumbo lump crab with spaghettini and miso beurre blanc was rich and perfectly balanced, and the crispy oysters with yuzu kosho and fresh herbs were an instant favorite. We especially loved the sauce with the oysters…it tied everything together beautifully.
For a larger plate, we went with the shrimp scampi with lemongrass, lime leaf, and pickled chiles and absolutely loved it.
We ended with the warm bread pudding with cardamom caramel and pecans, which was delicious. That said, I wished for just a little more…maybe a dollop of whipped cream or even a grilled peach on top would take it from great to unforgettable. The service was excellent—thank you, Will. Overall, the menu is inventive, the flavors are memorable, and the whole experience was a great. We’ll definitely be back! To note, wine is BYOW (bring...
Read moreThere must be some seriously good gris-gris in this little corner location in Metairie. The food at Dr. Jones is the kind that makes you a fan for life of the chef who made it, & reminds me of what makes the New Orleans food scene so special. Don’t pass up the chicken bites thinking they’re nuggets meant for little kids. These things pack the kind of flavor bomb you won’t soon forget. Their sides sounded spectacular and did not disappoint. I elected for the trifecta of ordering all three: the crispy sweet potatoes (with a heavy dose of spice & perfect portion of finely shredded pecorino on top, the kind of sautéed greens make you wish you could find more veggies that taste this good, & a coconut rice that I have no regrets over ordering. The blackened eggplant dish is perfect for those trying to eat more plants, but wants a meal packed with flavor.
I can’t wait to start working my way through the rest of their menu. Go now before this place...
